GAME launches unattractive new £36 loyalty card scheme.

I remember going to my local library it what must have been 1995 to check Gamefaqs. It took so long to load a page I ran out of my allotted 30 mins and gave up. Pretty sure it was Netscape Navigator too.

The last time game was useful to me, or was it gamestation, is when they offered a 30 day no quibble return gaurntee.

It basically turned it into a blockbuster. They stopped it quickly.

My local library back in the early-mid 90's used to have Amiga games I could take out - was always borrowing the spy who loved me iirc :D

I've only been in the MiltonKeynes Game recently and the only thing they have for PC's is steam keys, few top titles for much more than they could be had elsewhere and some keyboards/mice for at their rrp (again could be had much cheaper elsewhere)

Oh the memories! I remember one time they actually told tell me that they wouldn't let me return again. To be fair it was after like 5 times.

Game are ridiculous, I spent about 30 minutes in one of their stores a few months ago because they couldn't figure out how to refund an online order, I got so fed up with waiting, that I asked if there was any other way of refunding me and so instead they refunded me in steam gift cards (which somehow they managed to do extremely quickly). I still have those gift cards unused.

I was grounded at the time, I must've went through about 5-6 myself! Then got the game I originally wanted on the last go, no idea what it was. Was a handy service though :D

We want every penny you have left come to us and we will give you nothing in turn. I have'nt been in a Game shop for over 2 years and no intention of going in. I love my games but get them elsewhere and I prefer my PC which Game does not cover or have very little gamewise. I said it last year and will say it again RIP Game your time is coming. I pass the shop in Falkirk on a daily basis and its always empty.

Not just game dying off, high street shops are all vanishing or are just to expensive now. It costs too much to run them unless your in a prime location and have people in there constantly. Why pay the ridiculous rates/taxes to have a shop when you can run an online one for practically nothing out of your garage :/

Initially 30 days and then it was eventually reduced to 14.
Problem was of course it was abused and as someone else said, it was being treated as a Blockbusters.
I did return some pretty dire games because they were dire, but it was a handy policy they had!

Being charged the same price bothers me, though. It's such an obvious massive inflation of profit margins that it feels insulting.
My understanding is that GAME, etc, will not stock any products that are sold with a lower RRP for digital copies. I imagine that a lot of business comes from oldies wandering into shops armed only with the knowledge that their grandchildren like someone called Mario, so official e-store prices will always be absurd.

It is surprising they're still going, doesn't make a lot of sense really.

Average console users I suppose are not very savvy when it comes to possible savings made online.

Although they do come in handy when you want a copy of game right there and then, but you have to pay for the privilege obviously.

The prices in game are laughable. I only go in to buy old XBox 360 games but even then you are probably better off going to CEX, it's never worth buying anything new in there with prices that high.
I think a steam link and controller were the last things I bought, fortunately this was on a day when they were heavily discounted (£17 for the link and £23 for the controller if I remember) and it came with a free steam controller case.

CEX are just as bad IMO, I have no idea how they stay afloat. I went to buy Rainbox 6 the other day - Second hand CEX - £23, Second hand GAME - £22, Online - £16. I can appreciate the physical shops have higher overheads but even HMV were selling it new for £23! I ended up getting from HMV as they also had a mix and match 2 for £30 deal so even better. I just don't see why anyone would buy from either.

I check out CEX every now and then for retro stuff but these days they're just getting their prices from unsold lots on eBay from the looks of it.

They were selling Nintendo Switch's for £400 when they sold out at launch as well.
