Overwatch

I think the changes to 1v1 are really great. There is the Rock Paper Scissors moment of the character pick at the beginning, the moment of realisation when the heros choices are revealed and then the actually fight itself.

Everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses, it's up to the players to find ways to mitigate or capitalise on them.

Had a great round, choices were something like roadhog, Orisa and zen. I knew that most people are comfortable with hog, but I back my Orisa.

Sure enough those are the picks. But I knew the exact pattern to play to win. Shield up, pepper him win shots. Pretend to overextend and just as the hook comes in you armour up. Take more shots to the fact but thanks to the damage reduction you are okay. He begins to run as his health drops down. Bring him out of cover with Halt, lay another shield so he cannot engage you. Win.

God. It was so satisfying to mentally plan this out and have it work. I also completely beat a pharah with Orisa thanks to smart use of the shield, natural cover and halt. Felt great.

This latest update seems really good, they finally done a 3k costume for sym and I like it, the changes to 3v3 plus the new maps make it much more fun, also it's nice that healers get credit for kills now.

Anyone thinking of buying I think it's free all weekend to try out.

Yea noticed that last night when I was playing Mercy :)

Picked this yesterday. Kinda throws you on in there. Can see the need for team cooperation as was getting battered until I got into the swing of it a couple hours in. Very satisfying when you get it right.

Love the art style of these games. Played WoW for years and had a small dabble recently, but just got into Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. I just love the little universe and details Blizzard have going on.

Hmm. Go against my deepest instincts and what I've said before and suffer the 21:9 'support' and give it a go, or stick to my guns and say I'm never going to support the game, because of its 21:9 'support'

I want to know if it is "good" or only "good" if you are a Blizzard fanboy?

Critic and player reviews seem rather fragmented so difficult to know.

Does it have much depth?

I haven't played any other Blizzard games. In fact I hadn't been a PC Gamer for a long time (probably 10 years or so). I bought a gaming PC last year and have been slowly getting back in to the swing of things. I have really enjoyed Overwatch. I used to play a lot of Quake 2 back in the day, and moved on to CS: Source. When I got my PC up and running recently I started off with Battlefield 1.

I never really enjoyed Battlefield and the scale of the game was a little too big and it was hard to ever really feel as if you were having an impact on the game.

With Overwatch the games are small so you can have an impact on the progress of the game, it's easy to see what is going on and there are plenty of tactics and strategies to win. There is plenty of depth in terms of the characters available and how best to play them.

got over 600 hours in comp mode only.. its good fun but can be stressful sometimes when u get idiots..

best to learn a few heros so you can adjust to what the team needs teamwork is essential too dont go 1v1ing everyone.. ive noticed too that there is such a massive difference in teamwork from 3000 - 3500 rank and a lot less toxic people the higher u rank up!

Third attempt at purchasing.

Had a live chat with their CS. Rather helpful. They said security system was blocking automatically, cannot give reason owing to security etc. I only just created the account, I hear fraud is high with Battlenet so I guess they are strict. My account has been flagged for manual review so next time will go through.

Never had a problem with Steam though or buying anywhere else in the last decade.

I never played any other blizzard games before overwatch and it's now my favourite game.

I find playing comp there is a lot of depth you need character knowledge, skill and team work to rank up.

There is a lot of toxic people in voice chat but you can just turn off voice chat or add some people along the way and play with them.

Blizzards idea of supporting 21:9 resolution is taking a 16:9 display and cutting the top and bottom off it so it has a 21:9 resolution. And I won't ever buy the game because of it.
So what you're saying is that if they instead decided to give 21:9 users wider field of view 16:9 users should not buy the game based on the same logic, as it would be a 21:9 game that had the sides chopped off... You've really put Blizzard in a position in which they can't possibly win.

Can't say it's affected my enjoyment of the game one bit.

They say that giving a wider field of view gives Ultrawide owners an advantage. So does having a 1080ti and a 4k monitor running at 120fps because you're low for pro. With their idea of support you see LESS of the arena and map than 16:9 users do. You're at a disadvantage. So I refuse to buy it.

From my understanding, they stretch to fill 21:9. So you lose nothing but it looks funky as it's stretched.

I can see why they think the extra FOV would be an advantage in a much more appreciable way than a 1080ti, probably at pro level it'd make a big difference....at the level I play....I don't care if they gave you the extra!

Finished placement for S4 yesterday, so late to the party! 2600, so only down 100 from last season which I think is fair being I've barely played recently and that was with 3/7 win lose :( However, the loses I felt where I performed my best for some reason. Might play a few more comp matches before it finishes

I think a wider screen would be a disadvantage if the fov tied in. Ideally you want your eyes focussed not darting all over the screen. It's a trade off.

You'd hope such a huge dev would do some real world testing with pros and randoms and see. But that's obviously too much common sense in our modern world for such a small aspect. I'm a 19:9 peasant so can't complain.
