DTG Flight School and Flight Simulator

Wasn't really expecting a huge amount from this game but even then I'm left a bit disappointed. They've removed so much stuff (not had time to do new UI?) For example when setting up a free flight screen you can't specify where to start on the airfield. Not even the runway. So when I started a flight with the Thunderstorm theme it gave me a 20 knot tail wind to take off with. Maybe I've missed something, I certainly fell for the error of not clicking the start button as the 'busy animation' was playing after selecting airfield, plane and weather. Daft UI that bit. Anyone falling in love with it?

Apart from the rain effect on the windshield this has little or nothing to offer anyone with a fully loaded P3Dv3.4 (or even FSX) install. Some of the aircraft are nice, and very well modeled, but there is simply nothing here to get that excited about. P3Dv3 and the forthcoming v4, along with X-Plane 11 off far more than this does. Maybe for someone trying flight simming for the first time it a good deal, but that is about it.

It's a shame we are stuck with these ancient engines. If we had a sim that looked and ran as well as MS Flight did when that turd launched, but fully featured, we'd be onto a winner

I am eager to see which sim turns out to be best out of xp11, p3d and this. I have Fsx but was considering this but may wait a few months to see how it pans out

I can't see this over taking P3D or X-Plane... Lockheed Martin has gone far further with the old engine than Dovetail have, and I'm sure v4 will be another step forward. That combined with the closed developer environment that DTG have means this is far less likely to thrive than the openness of P3D and X-Plane. I hated X-Plane for years, but v11 is magnificent, at least once you get used to it... I'm using Ortho4Xplane to make some amazing UK photoscenery, and with the GB Pro overlay for 3D it's the best scenery of this type I've ever used... and it's free!

More sims is never a bad thing, but I can't see this taking-off (groan) to the extent FSX/P3D and X-Plane has.

I think XP11 is the most natural and realistic looking simulator, although it still has a few bugs that spoil the party at times. Its limitations have to be noted as well, such as lack of seasons, ATC and a pretty poor depiction of weather. I use xEnviro for real world weather, and it looks great, but is still some way off the weather you can get in FSX/P3D/FSW.

I'm not a one sim person though, so I don't mind juggling platforms and using one for one aspect, and the other for something else... to me they all have something to offer. FSW does, stormy, wet weather flying better than anything currently: P3D does shadowing better, and XP looks and feels the most natural... P3D has the best range of payware (inc. the amazing Orbx FTX range) whereas XP has a vast and awesome array of freeware. Get them all I say ;)

EDIT: I've just spend twenty minutes making this area in XP11... Innsbruck (LOWI) with the default 3D data, and Bing photo base. I'm blown away by what this sim can do...

Yup same. Bought XP 10 but could never get on with it. XP 11 though entices me!

I refunded FSW as just not impressed even allowing for early access. Really need to try XP11 as I read good things over at Avsim and FS dot com, but £55 on Steam - yegods. Even with £20 back in my Steam wallet from FSW still a mega ching. Will see if it drops a bit in the summer sale but as a fairly new title not expecting much off.

I did read somewhere you can download a demo version of XP11 so I might check that out in the meantime.

Out of interest, can anyone who's tried XP11 state how the default heavy jets compare with those in FSX? Not expecting Level D/PMDG fidelity but hoping slightly better in terms of flight model and sounds than the Aces/MS iron.

Just read that, keen to see the difference, would like a new sim and XP11 is looking like it may be the one at the moment, but P3d V4 may be a fly in the ointment :)

I will be grabbing P3Dv4 as soon as its out... Prepar3D has been my main sim since v1 and this will continue with v4, with XP-11 by its side. I'm sorry Dovetail, but despite a few nice things I've already removed FSW from my HD as I see no point in it at all, and I want the space to run v3 and v4 (and XP )until all the add-ons I use are ready for v4. If anything interesting happens to FSW I can always try it again in the future, but my expectations are low.

The LOD and Autogen draw distance in v4 are now amazing, with trees and buildings out to the horizon.

Regardless of which sim you chose, this is a great year for those interested in the hobby.

Can I ask, is it the Academic License for $59.95 that you buy to get this, watching that Belynz stream it say P3D V4 but the menus look like they were FSX, is it an add on for FSX? thx

This is built on the FSX engine but is for business/training, but yes you can buy the academic version, I almost bought it the other day but found out you don't get a free upgrade to v4
