Somone crashed in to my car & left a note

Yes you are unreasonable. He was honest and admitted he hit your car. Most people would drive off.

He is happy to pay for the repairs......

You are being unreasonable. Looks like an old relatively low value car. Why penalise him and yourself over something so trivial?

Its not a super high value car but it does have sentimental value, I didn't cause this accident and i want it to be put back to the way it was without the headache of having to locate a bodywork shop near myself, get a quote, hope he accepts the quote and pays then wait to have it fixed without a replacement car for work...

I have had accidents that where not my fault previously and it has never effected my insurance premiums.. I pay £30 per month fully comp age 28

Perhaps he had no choice because he was a neighbour and i would have seen his car?

If you're worried about being car less pick a body shop that will lend you a car, some of the bigger ones round here, used by the insurance companies as it happens do have their own cars to lend out, probably won't be anything fancy but at least you'll be mobile.

Wow your lucky.

Didn't someone have a note on their car once after damage that said " hi I hit your car but I'm only leaving this note as someone was watching" No details just that

Yeah that would have sucked

Honestly this is the third person to crash in to my car,

The first time was parked outside work a fellow employee reversed in to my car and i let them pay for repairs at a repair shop and i genuinely was not happy with the result but lived with it.

Second time i was at a junction, driver in front of me panicked and instead of going across the junction she threw her car in reverse and went straight in to me.. This time it was dealt with through insurance to which i was very happy with the result.

The reason i want to go through insurance this time is because i don't know the guy, I've never met him before and i can't trust he will be forthcoming with payment, the car has a sentimental value as it was the first car that i bought & it was a father son thing, my dad passed away earlier this year and we worked on the car together on multiple occasions

Hmm I still think you're being fussy.

If you weren't happy with the repairs the first time, that's a problem with the body shop and not the person who crashed into you.

I think you're being overly fussy, I always give people the opportunity to pay for it themselves than go through insurance!

Careful you don't go down the insurance road and they write it off, obviously I can't tell how old it is or what the value is but it's a possibility!

if you know who it is then you can always call the police if he doesn't pay then go through insurance. make sure to take pics of his car as well as get either a video or audio recording of him admitting to damage (phone in hand whilst having a chat).

that way your bulletproof. you can then get the car fixed through your own insurance then send them all the evidence as well as the crime reference number.

however i'd deffo be taking cash in hand for something like this especially if they are openly offering it.

Let him pay for the damage, it's only cosmetic damage.

Going the insurance route will put both of you more out of pocket for nothing. At least you can pick a reputable repairer if your arranging it yourself.

Also if the insurer gets quoted more than about 25% the value of the car they will write it off. That will hurt your premium for the next 5 years.

You are being a bit of a fanny about this, the bloke is being reasonable. Get a quote and get the money. Structural damage? He's creased your wing and chipped the door.

Well i took your advice, offered to get a quote on it, he now wants to go through insurance.. So there we go.

This really. If this car has true sentimental value, then you will be MILES better off getting it fixed yourself. It looks like a low value car from what I can see, and as such, will likely be written off for that damage. I have experience of this myself as an insurance company recently wrote of my in-laws motor (which I subsequently bought), for much less than the damage you are showing:

Admittedly, that is after hitting the dent with a plunger. It did look like this:

But none the less, that was a single panel damaged, and the car was written off. With a CAT C marker no less. So if the car has ANY sentimental value AT ALL, then you should look for a quote for the work, and see if the guy pays up. Otherwise you may end up without the car anyway, and the hassle of looking for a new one, or fixing it yourself regardless (with the insurance payout).

It looks like a Ford Fusion to me and i'd be willing to bet it'll be written off. If the car has sentimental value do not go through the insurance or it'll likely be a cube in 2 weeks time.

Edit - If the wing structure is anything like the same Era Mondeo you could have a new wing on that in an hour for about £30.

Edit 2 - You could persue a cash in lieu settlement like I did but the woman that hit me wasn't willing to pay more than £50 and I couldn't get a bumper that cheap. It took hours of phone calls to sort out though and you won't get a courtesy car.

Insurance company confirm that it is repairable and not a write off, courtesy car and repairs are being arranged and will be claimed from the third party.

This is your insurance company? Of course they would say that.

They haven't even inspected the car yet, how could they say it isn't a write off?

Classic case of doing it all wrong! When did the people of the world lose their IQ's?

I don't trust a stranger to pay me upwards of £400-500 to have repairs done to my car, especially when it was very hard to get a decent reply from him in the first place.

I think sending a text wanting insurance details was the wrong approach. Should have called and met up to discuss options. I bet he'd have been a friendly enough bloke and you could then have walked away and got a few quotes from local body shops and then get him to confirm payment for the work to be done.

The body shops would more than likely have given you a courtesy car as well.

Their IQ's what though? Don't leave us hanging!
