Hamerton Zoo "Serious incident"

I hope they don't put the tiger down. The zoo keeper wouldn't have wanted that.

I guess there might not be any need? the tiger is no more dangerous now than it was before, and tragic as the accident is putting the tiger down will simply add to the death toll of this incident for no benefit.

putting the tiger down to save the keeper maybe, although obviously the time for that has passed.

A captive big cat that's had a taste of human blood is deemed more likely to strike again I believe. Very sad, most keepers I know are incredibly dedicated to their charges and acceptive of the inherent risks. Accidents happen.

Surely the likelihood remains unchanged? A tiger is not any less or more likely to attack a human owing to its 'taste for blood'. This is simply a case of poor controls, as with any zoo incident of this nature. These things are entirely preventable if only mitigating controls are operated as designed.

Wasn't there an issue recently with a latch not working properly at a similar incident*?

Im sure we will find out eventually what happened?

*i don't mean the same zoo.

Getting mauled to death by a tiger shouldn't really be a joking matter, so probably about 5 minutes knowing this place !!

I remember some years ago a story where a Zoo worker was mauled (Non fatally, but he lost an arm. He foolishly put his arm through the bars on the cage and the Tiger grabbed it and nibbled it all the way up to the shoulder pulling him towards the cage so he ended up nose to nose with Mr Tiger)

As he was being taken on a stretcher to the Ambulance. the Paramedic asked him "Do you have any allergies?"

"Yes, Tigers!"

:p :D
