A tourist complex in the Philippines is on lockdown after explosions were heard and at least one gunman opened fire.

Police and Swat teams were deployed to Resorts World Manila shortly after midnight local time (16:00 GMT).

Staff at one hotel told CNN Philippines a masked gunman was on the second floor firing at guests, and TV footage showed people running from the building.
Given the wider situation in the Philippines, this could be very bad :( Hoping for the best.

I guess that the time of the posts plays a part.. i.e. don't start discussing Islamism as soon as the attack is reported or details/nature of the attack/attacker confirmed as people get rather wound up by it

nah - the groups in the area have pledged allegiance to ISIS, it isn't just reaching... granted if it happened a decade or so ago they'd have pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda no doubt but it also isn't just some random group with nothing to do with ISIS that they're just taking credit for

Wow. I used to say the same thing about isis claiming attacks they had nothing to do with, many years ago, and i used to be met with complete and utter hostility.

Very nice to see three people in this thread who understand how isis works. It took many years but glad to see people are finally understanding. :)

Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day. Well done you!

It wasnt Islamist related. Police have said it was a botched robbery. He wasn't firing at people, although many are dead from suffocation after he set casino tables on fire.
