New Motherboard

I make sure there is enough USB ports on I.O rear for all my needs & a board 4/6 sata ports & up , i'm not worried about SLI , 1 PCI-E X 16 would do me , LED's on motherboard brighten a window case Nice
1 x M.2 Port .

I make sure it supports the CPU I want to use with it, if it allows overclocking (if I want to overclock) and ATX specification.

Apart from that, there are lots of factors such as number of SATA ports, memory compatibility, price, VRM specification, BIOS/driver support etc.

Can anyone spec me a decent mobo? My budget is going to be around max £250 for it. But I have no real idea what im looking for!
I am just going to be gaming on the PC build, it will use the Ryzen 5 1600 CPU and GTX 1070 GPU.

Would this be a good choice?
'Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero'

Thanks in advance

Currently the following:

  1. Intel NIC{s}.
  2. The ability to put my GPU{s} in a PCI-E 3.0 16x slot and my Intel 750 in a 3.0 x4 slot without blocking the GPU airflow or physically clashing with the Noctua D15 CPU cooler.
  3. One or more U.2 ports for additional NVMe drive{s}.
  4. A brand I have had a good experience with in the past (usually ASUS on Intel and Gigabyte on AMD).
  5. PS2 port to connect keyboard without adaptor.
  6. Nice chunky VRM heatsinks.

Reputation, warranty = UK RMA, price for features and if there's media presence easy to get a hold of .

I use Gigabyte followed by Asus as they do look good And avoid MSI due to customer service. My own views

The higher end/cost motherboards usualy have more features and better vrm's for overclocking but this is not to say that the cheaper boards cant overclock.

no
What is that?
I have no idea, maybe 6 USB ports?
Xfire/sli is the respective terms for dual card setups of amd and nvidia.

Given your requirements, IMO, you've no need to be dumping ~250 quid on a motherboard. Getting a much cheaper one would release funds to upgrade other parts, e.g. Gpu, ram, storage.
I could have went with a b350 board myself but went gigabyte gaming 5 (about 70 quid cheaper than the asus you linked) as a 'happy medium' between low end and high end. Means I'll be less likely to want or need a new board if I move to zen+ later down the line.
But honestly given you're above requirements you'd almost certainly be fine with a ~100 quid board.

Would you be able to Spec me a good one?

from my own 'investigations' the gigabyte gaming 5 I'm going for is a very capable board and can be hard for about 175 quid or the K5 for about 150.

What I'd suggest you do is post in the general hardware section a 'spec me' listing your total budget and what you need hardware wise. There's some really helpful and knowledgeable chaps in there will help you better. I only researched my own specific needs, those guys will have a much broader knowledge base.

Alright will do, thanks
