What is the general opinion on wearing a suit with a waistcoat, but no tie? I'm going to a wedding that will be fairly relaxed/informal (it's in a pub). Groom is wearing trainers with his suit for example, what a hipster ;)

Girlfriend is trying to get me to dress down a bit, but I only ever get to wear my suit at weddings so I'm quite keen. It's a woollen-looking navy blue suit (textured, not shiny), so looks decent with an 'interesting'/loud-ish shirt. Not sure :o

Last wedding i went to last year, was quite a posh event and besides the groom, i was the odd one out wearing a tie, I actually like the look of a suit without a tie.

I wouldn't even attend a wedding where anyone wore trainers, and as for a 3 piece suit worn with no tie.... Is this wedding in Liverpool?

You should have a look in the photography forum. Raymond and MRK have put some cracking non-formal wedding shots in there. I think non-formal is the way to go...Looks so much more relaxed.....And FUN...Which is probably the last time you'll have any fun

lol at the gypo comments. I imagine most of the guests are 30/40-something creative industry types. Hence the trainers with the suit ;)

Sounds like there's no consensus then :(

Seriously....Wear a tie, take it off if you like, nobody will give a toss. More alpha less beta OP.
Alternatively, don't wear a tie but keep one in your pocket. If you feel the need to wear one as the event progresses, take it out and put it on :)

You get people dressed all sorts at a wedding - even a super formal do like my sister's wedding there was some people who just had a nice jacket, formal shirt no tie and smart jeans/trousers who didn't really look out of place (some pull it off better than others though).

Most people though just can't pull that look off - I'd recommend not going the full 3 piece (in that no tie scenario) unless you know you can heh.

Funnily enough I said to my girlfriend I'm not sure I can pull it off, and that I'm not exactly David Gandy :p:o

Currently have a light blue shirt and a nice orange knitted tie. Looks great but was bought for a winter wedding; it looks quite autumnal. I think a white shirt and a different tie would make it more summery and light. Off to the shops tomorrow then..
