(ty to those that helped me earlier)
My Cooler Master Elite 335 will be getting a new lease on life, by replacing the mobo, cpu, ram and nothing else as I have all else that matters. The cpu and ram have been chosen and seem to be right for the job:
Ryzen 5 Quad Core 1400
Kingston Fury Black 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 PC4-17000C14 2133MHz Single Channel Module

But, the mobo is getting a lot of flack for various reasons and so I am once again looking for something that will do the job and not having me to regret including it in to the sytem.

The pc will be used mostly for gaming, so strategy games such as Stellaris, TW Warhammer 2 and some intensive fps games and the rest of the time it will be used for work :) .

TY in advance

Have you bought the memory already? as Ryzen benefits from fast memory - and you could get a 2666MHz stick for only a few pounds more (presuming you're getting one stick so you can upgrade in the future?).

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Gigabyte Gaming 3 board has a good proven record - comes in ATX and MATX:

I have not bought anything yet, but plan to do so next Tuesday :) .

I would definitely recommend the faster memory, for a few pounds more, if you can afford it.

Are you buying a single stick of 8Gb for future upgrade purposes?

And what's your max budget?

My max budget is £300 (or just over) and the 1 stick of ram is in case I wish to upgrade a couple of years later:
Ryzen 5 Quad Core 1400 3.40GHz
£149.99

Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 AMD B350 (Socket AM4) DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard
£87.95

Kinston
Fury Black 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C16 2666MHz Single Channel Module (HX426C16FB2/8)
£72.95

As above if you can go for 3000Mhz memory as it really helps Ryzens performance.

This may not be in your budget but if you can save for a bit longer a Ryzen 1600 with 3000Mhz or faster RAM will give you a very good base for gaming and other activities as you get 6 cores / 12 threads. It also makes it more future proof.

Two example builds - both using 8Gb 3000Mhz dual channel kits (you could still upgrade in a couple of years time) - same price as single and with each new BIOS update the sticks are more likely to hit 2933 (but most do).

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £323.43
(includes shipping: £10.50)

And a 1500x build if you could stretch to it for comparison:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £343.43
(includes shipping: £10.50)

You can substitute your single stick of 2666MHz, in either build, with no issues if that's what you would prefer.

A lot to think about as money is an issue these days since I am semi retired and disabled, so a bit cash strapped.
I want to thank all of you for your great suggestions and you have given me a lot to think about :) .

No worries.

If you can stretch the extra £20 for the 1500X is a worthwhile investment - especially if you intend on keeping the PC for years. But if money is an issue the 1400 is a great budget CPU.

I chose Gigabyte as it's a proven board with the F6 BIOS - plus it has UK RMA which can prove to be a real bonus.

Looks to be worth the additional cash, so will do that then and an esp good deal since I have been able to bring the price down a bit, so all looking good.

Great - that's a great bang-for-buck combo.

Additional: If you do decide to get the above:

Once you've established the system posts and temps OK within the BIOS - update the BIOS immediately, F6 (or greater if it's out by then), by using the Q-Flash utility and with only 1 stick of memory installed. This will improve memory compatibility/higher frequency speeds.

Press the <END> key on boot up - and use a USB stick to install the BIOS (prep the stick first - format the stick with using FAT 32 and then save the latest BIOS file for the flash).

Oh well, I am really sorry to bring this up again.

Have till this Tuesday before ordering the stuff, but once again small changes (oh joy).

Worst problem I am having is deciding on a mobo and ram that work well together and not having to flash the bios, as since I had my stroke awhile back, I can no longer control my
hands very well and must rely on my not so techy son to install the parts (he does a good job :) ). Other than having decided on buying the Ryzen 5 1500x, the mobo and ram are
still undecided. Since having made the final choice of buying the Ryzen 5 1500x, it means price is very important now to keep low as possible so long as the product will do as required
and that very little overclocking (if any) will be done for the first half a year.

Sorry to read that.

I've been helping with a build on another thread and he's using a GigabyteGA-AB350M-Gaming 3. The bit that may interest you is that it came pre-installed with the latest BIOS - which is the F4 for the micro ATX version (I quoted F6 incorrectly before - that's for the bigger ATX version).

He bought it from OcUK so it would seem their latest batches have the latest BIOS release - but obviously I can't guarantee this - but it's worth noting/considering. Perhaps, contacting them via Customer Services Forum...

So, I would still consider this setup:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £343.43
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Or with slower frequency memory:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £337.43
(includes shipping: £10.50)

You can get cheaper motherboards if required...

TY, will look in to it right now. :)

No problem.

I didn't realise the price difference was so small between the memory. If you can afford it - get the 3000Mhz as Ryzen performs better with faster memory (and those sticks 'should' hit 2933MHz - they do usually).

OK, all done and waiting for the items.... Now just need to worry about my Steam installation.

TY for all the help! :)
