Morning Everyone,

I currently have an ageing system but after reading numerous upgrade help threads I believe I can wrangle another year or so out of this system with a GPU upgrade.

I currently have a 770gtx lightning 2gb and game on a 1080p monitor at 144hz. I'm stuck between buying a new 580 8gb or the superclocked 1060 6gb that is currently on offer here. I do prefer Nvidia having got all the drivers already etc but ATI have been solid in the past for me as well.

Any advice or suggestions? Which direction would you go in? Thanks.

Morning fellow Hull'igan,

Personally I'd go for RX 580. It'll continue to get better and better as AMD constantly improves driver support. However in traditional Nvidia fashion the 1060 drivers will soon start to get a bit sloppy, especially when Volta comes out.

You might not have a choice. The AMD cards are really hard to buy at the moment due to mining. I dont think you would be disappointed with either card though to be fair.

They're both good cards, Personally I'd go with the 8gb 580 but as mentioned it's hard to find one at a sensible price nowadays. if you do go with a 1060 the important thing to remember is to get the 6gb model as the 3 gb model has less cores as well as half the ram.

RX 580, love my Aorus XTR cards - what the 480 models should have been like :D

standard Aorus version should do just as fine as its 92mm fans instead of 100 and only 2 slots instead of 3 :D

again if you can find them

The RX 580 is the better card, but they are also very popular with Crypto-currency miners and they are all out of stock.

So get GTX 1060, but NOT the 3GB one, it has less shaders than the 6GB one and 3GB is just not enough Memory.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Not in a massive rush so might hold out for the 580...

+1, the RX580 is the better buy ;)
