I need to post a small parcel to Italy today to arrive tomorrow, best way?!

Depending on how close you are to the depot of a major courier and then in turn how close that is to an airport you can have items collected from where you are as late as 5 - 6pm and delivered by 10am the next morning

Interparcel and Parcels2go use the major couriers to actually move the parcels but get better rates than you can generally get by going direct
 
We sent out a parcel to a customer in the US on a 2-3 day service to get there "as fast as possible", luckily they lived in a city with a hub airport nearby and it was delivered to their door less than 24 hours after posting. On the other end of the scale if we post out to India the same service takes 4-6 weeks on average.
 
buy a cheap easyjet flight to Milan/Rome/Turin/closest airport and deliver it yourself, would probably be cheaper and way more fun, get runted on Peroni while you are there
