Hi looking to build a pc from scratch trying to keep the price as low as possible
would an AM3 be fine to use or would it be better to go to AM4 ?
looking to play games such as planet coaster, gta, ets 2 etc

also it needs to be on ultra or very high graffic settings

in what ways could i save some cash such as buying a bronze instead of gold power supply
any advice on memory speeds to get and graphics cards most welcome ...thanks

AM4 all the way. If you're on a budget, could be worth waiting for the R3 lineup due in a couple of months or so

That PSU will be enough, the gfx card takes a single 8pin so not power hungry at all, the board doesnt do SLI so again no need for a larger PSU.

the 1400 is still quad like the 1500x and overclocks the same, just doesnt have the X or faster speed(hardly much), went with half the ram as its a 4 slot board, so gives you options for an extr 8gb or more, cheaper but still a decent case, the cooler should be enough, extra 100w power for under a tenner, cheaper 1060 and i managed and SSD + a HDD so the ideal combination, they do have the same WDB bundle with a 500gb ssd, but it would put you £33 over budget and thats with me choosing some cheaper parts still... FYI if you was going old AMD, you would want FM2/+ for the 6 & 8 core FX processors.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £788.13
(includes shipping: £13.20)

same basic question, but a little different starting place. I already have the AM3+ mb (MSI 990FXA-GD80). So, I can build up an AM3+ system quite a bit cheaper, as I'd have to get a new MB otherwise. So, given that...same answer? Still go newer?

What it really comes down to is: are newer CPU's that much faster than older CPU's? This used to be a given, but not sure it is anymore.

better off to make your own thread to keep people happy like, but to answer your question quickly, AM4 will obviously be the better option, but am3 processors are cheap, ddr3 is cheap, can get good hd7000 series or gtx equivalent cheap enough, so depending on your budget you could make a go at it and see how it goes, i would if it was me as i like cheaper older systems, but thats personal preference.

No brainier here it has to be am4 if you were buying new and not used.

edit

Just looked at the thread date it is an old thread #facepalm.

lol i never noticed, it was top of the 1st page, but i have found that when i am looking for specific answers/information you find that there are threads of old which like the person above wanted fresh answers for as times wouldve changed.

My 8320 really struggles with Planet Coaster, well as soon as the park gets anywhere near busy. :(

Mine did too so i put it on my mate's 5930k that was clocked at 4.3 and it only got 1 more fps than my 8320 when clocked @4.4
