For £2,000 could I build something much better than the Battlebox?

So things are starting to run slow on my machine and I don't really like it, I saw that OcUK do a nice looking machine called the Battlebox

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...700k-4.7ghz-geforce-gtx-1080ti-fs-1b8-og.html

Now I've always built my own PCs but the above looks pretty good. If I was to build my own I have a pretty decent PSU I could use, running on a 27" ROG Swift at the moment, would I be better off building my own? If so could someone spec something decent for me please? Prefer Intel and NVidia.

Pretty much only used for gaming.

Thank you.

Thank you mate appreciate that, I will take a look. I didn't really that about Ryzen, that's really good to know.

I bought the be quiet! Dark Power Pro P11 750W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply when I got the be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Full Tower Gaming Case - Orange a few months ago but I lost all the boxes and parts for the case so I would need the case you mentioned. If I added say another £500 would I get a anything much better than the above or would the bang for buck increase be negligible?

Thanks for your time mate :)

Not much to spend anymore on.

You could get a more fancy case and some over flashes bits.

Good PSU you have, you can do SLI with it and that motherboard.

theres this ryzen prebuilt? It comes in at more than £2k, has 200mhz slower ram and 1tb less storage, however the 8 core 1700x is a much better performer than the 7700k, however if you got 2.5k of budget then you could get 2-4tb storage or a 1tb ssd plus 2tb storage given the extra costs on top.

The OP is asking if he can build a better system and not just another pre-built which is overpriced.

Yea' thanks Exo but stulid is right.

Ok I'm happy to build my own but I think my budget has gone up a bit the below would be the max, I'm still happy to go with the Ryzen but the new PC I was looking at was this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/radiance-gamer-pro-asus-aura-sync-gaming-pc-fs-1ap-og.html

Only because the clock speed on AMD chips is different than intel (seems lower I could be wrong) and I've always used intel but as I said I'll happily switch. The Ryzen you linked is that the top of the range one at the moment?

So the reason I wanted this one was because it's already overclocked. While I've gamed for years and have always run overclocked it's normally because I've bought a bundle from OcUK which has an OC'ed chip. How hard is the Ryzen to OC compared to Intel? I guess also in a seperate budget I would also look for a new monitor, is this one of the best ones out at the moment? I love the 27" one but I just feel it's a little small these days https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer...e-zeroframe-curved-led-monitor-mo-109-ac.html

Thanks again.

Overpriced how? But op said 'if they was to build' I'm not going to keep making mock ups if stulid build will be better in most cases, so I chose a prebuilt to compare with the one this thread was created about. Given the Intel build included a 1080ti I stuck with it, but a 1400/1500x isn't better than a 7700k, so no point suggesting those so went with the 1700x, can save money getting the 1700, makes no odds to me how the op buys the system, I was just using a prebuilt as comparison.

Hey mate thanks for that. Just actuallt had a proper look as I was on my mobile and that looks pretty nice to be fair. Thanks mate

Looking through the options for £80 more I can get the 1800 is it that much better? Also the ram speed, how impacting is that as I can add different ram to the one you linked.

Thanks mate

Hi again, so to try and answer the questions.

1) There is a Ryzen 1800X which has the same core/cache count, just a bit 200MHz faster clocked at the top end, Intel are bring X299 and a new buch of multi core cpus and AMD are bring threadripper CPUs (again a variety of different ones) which will be a new socket again+chipset, both these are aimed at high-end work station stuff/usage.

2) Overcloking Ryzen doesnt appear to be tricky and many people are managing to do it and get say 4GHz easily.

3) That monitor sure does look epic and has the right things going for it such as Gsync and says it can also do 100Hz instead of 60Hz. But AOC also have this - http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/ag352ucg

4) Yes RYzen likes RAM speed, so 3000Mhz (will actually be 2933Mhz if using XMP) a minimum I say. Get faster RAM to run can be tricky, there are constant BIOS updates to help things as it is a very new paltform

P.S if you dont like white I can always murder it out and make it blacker with RGB illumination,

Yes the case is expensive but it has a tempered glass panel.

If you know how to build a PC (and overclock it as an extra bonus) then any pre-built is an expensive option!!!

The AOC is avalible, just not here at OcUK.

It has a higher resolution that that ACer first linked and is super widescreen compared to the second linked one.

I would still get a 7700k over Ryzen though to be honest if its for gaming. Nothing to do with Red vs Blue or any of that nonsense, just a better option even if Intel are a bit pricier.

7700K/skylake is replaced in like 6-8weeks so has no future, Ryzen has more cores/threads and already some developers are releasing game updates to take advantage of this and in the future the Ryzen I am sure will be the better option as it should out last the 7700K.

Thanks @oldestgregg

When you say Skylake is replaced in like 6-8 weeks what do you mean mate?

Also one question, you mentioned AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1700X 3.80GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail= £368.99 - why would you go for this over the 1800x? My budget is now at around £2700 so I can go a little more. For £2700 would you change anythings in the initial 2 builds you did?

Thanks

Theres a new CPU coming from Intel to replace Kabylake (said skylake which came before kabylake in error).

The 1800X is just 200Mhz faster than the 1700X, if you can get a 1800X then its wont be worse.

I am happy with those parts I listed for you.

ahhh ok, awesome mate. Thank you very much... one last question honest...

Looking at the monitor you mentioned (unless it's the wrong one)
The Aoc is the value on the left and the right is ROG/another one.
Max Vertical Resolution 1,080 pixels 1,440 pixels
Horizontal Resolution 2,560 pixels 3,440 pixels

More is normally better isn't it so what exactly does this mean? Sorry to keep asking questions mate but it's a lot of money to just drop haha. Thanks

AOC = 3440x1440@100Hz

3440 is the number of pixels wide it has and 1440P is the number of pixels high in a 21:9 super widescreen format.

Acer predator you linked = 3840x2160 in a 16:9 widescreen format.

Now more pixels is better as it looks sharper etc but also harder for a GFX card to push around.

The AOC is able to run at 100Hz and the Acer seems to be just 60Hz, both have Gsync.

Higher refresh (and having Gsync also) is super lush, makes the onscreen motion more fluid.
