I can't sleep, too much work on so i digressed and started pondering the above...

So, what do you reckon?

Could humans ever reach a level of intelligence, emotional or otherwise which meant working together for the greater good prevailed? A world where science trumped religion. Where narrow minded us and them attitutes, nationalism and so forth were no more?

I for one dont hold up much hope :p I dont understand the psychology behind it(feel free to enlighten) but i believe humans, the masses specifically are inherently drawn towards silos no matter how big or small that they can feel a sense of belonging to. Wether that be religion, a country, a football club... perhaps its a pack thing.

Random and slightly ridiculous chain of thought, i know!

When robots AI take everybodys jobs we will be forced into a semi socialist society in which innovation wont equal riches.

There will always be bad people though.

When you say you don't understand the phsycology of tribalism - are you genuinely ignorant of it or just saying you are above it?

Because I don't believe any human is above their evolved instincts. You can be aware of them but you are still only human.

Only if there was a global consciousness shift IMO at least to the level of having better empathy and understanding of the situation of other people and a perception that sometimes the efforts we do to make the world a better place for ourselves can actually make it worst for both ourselves and everyone i.e. in seeking riches depriving the very world that you still have to live amongst.

Unless you get the voice of god.

No chance. Humans have been disagreeing and attacking each other since the dawn of time. It'll only get worse as resources become scarce and the global population increases - if we haven't already killed each other in a third world war, that is...

The only time we will unite is in hatred of another species.

Hence why I look forward to alien life :).

Or when some bigger disaster is looming over our heads and even then not 100% of people can put their petty differences aside to work towards the bigger picture - even with the end of the world approaching people would still be squabbling over petty issues down to the last second.

To be fair I expect meeting alien life to be one of those "bigger disaster" I assume our government will be greeting them :D.

Sadly I do believe it would take something along the lines of a global extinction threat before we get anywhere close to uniting and forgetting differences. Even then I imagine some wouldn't be able to get past theirs.

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.

Also, for as long as there are men, there will be war.

We are still animals at the end of the day, however much we believe we are above them in intelligence or emotions. We all have survival instincts built in for ourselves, children, family e.t.c. Prejudice is another good one, as much as we like to believe we don't suffer from it, I'm sure we've all made a comment about someone on the TV about appearance and as mentioned by other posters this comes down to tribalism which is also a survival instinct. So untill we magically stop being animals, my answer is a resounding no.

Of course not lol. IMO Intelligence is closely linked with propensity for violence - look at the animal kingdom, our closest species, the chimp can be incredibly violent and there are documented incidents of them grouping up and engaging in violent behaviour. Likewise in the sea, the Humboldt squid which displays incredible amounts of intelligence, is also one of the most aggressive creatures out there.

The Watchmen scenario.
