Has Razer rejuvenated the PC gaming industry?

Eh. I haven't ever owned a Razer product. I've looked at them seriously but I found that if you shop around you can generally get better quality gear for the same or less money. All credit to them though. They know how to run a successful business.

Retail outlets round the UK are full of their products. if it infuses people's interested, whether we buy their products or not, then that's surely great for the whole industry, including the likes of OcUK?

It's good in one respect... But I've certainly never liked anything from Razer and it does feel like light-weight, flimsy plastic tat, which would be overpriced for what it is. They're also very heavy on selling the brand itself. Not the only ones, but definitely capturing the teen market and milking it heavily.

What Razer and gaming brands have done is inflating prices.

Like keyboards without even dedicated multimedia/volume controls costing lot just because of colour lights and plastic toy look.
And don't forget Razer using Chinese switches for better profit margin...

Then all these cheap China garbage headphones with flashy colour and toy look at prices where you can get headphones from actual quality audio makers.
Heck, best prices for Beyerdynamic DT770s and DT990 are below more expensive gaming junk.

What is "good for industry" just isn't good news for this third rock from the sun and its environment...

Had nothing but positive experiences with Razer here. I had one of the early Razer Diamondbacks (the Magma) back when gaming mice were barely a thing and 1600dpi was considered high! It lasted for years and was still working perfectly the day I replaced it. Since then I've tried Roccat, Saitek, and other manufacturers and none of them have lasted even remotely the same length of time as that original diamondback did. I'm now back to Razer with a Deathadder Chroma and again it's working flawlessly. If it lasts even hald the length my diamondback did it will have outlasted the Roccat and Saitek mice I had inbetween and it will likely make me stick with Razer again in the future.

Even if that's the case, it's surely not a bad thing that they are bringing PC gaming back from an abyss Let's face it, it has been on the decline for quite a few years and niche to a few?
Watch Linus' video on "is the pc dead". Medium and high end market for PC's and components is actually on the rise and has been for some time. It's only low end "office" PC's. That are in decline.

Personally I hate all these gaming brands. Cases, laptops, motherboards. All covered in childish graphics and plastic. You pay a premium for nothing. Give me a good spec, not a peice of plastic with a dragon on it.

Meh, probably just showing my age.

Agreed, but I think it's more likely some of the huge YouTubers have been putting out increasing PC content due to mods in games. It's also probably quite fair to say controller support has been ever increasing and improving which in itself makes the transition easier. If Microsofts approach to cross platform play becomes more widespread it will help further.

Good publicity for sure, and yes they do put out some pretty questionable quality products! Probably just some mediocre journo, generally the look at feel of everything in your shop has improved massively over the years not a single vendor.

"Razer is to PC gaming what Halfords is to performance modifications on cars"

Something I once read on the PCMR sub reddit IIRC or it might have been a comment on one of their FB posts.

I've only ever owned one Razer product and it's been fine, it's a mousemat so not exactly much you can do to ruin one but people seems to either love or hate their products.

Anything that breathes fresh life into PC gaming should be a good thing IMO.

Nonsense, Razer are this decades Alienware, flash stuff and seen as a mark of performance/coolness by noobs, but their overall effect on the industry is negligible.

This and their products like Alienware are over priced but because they've got name recognition with the teen market that's all most want, I need Razer products as I can't play CS : GO without them etc.

I guess they have helped drive the enthusiast sector which is sort of good for us all - though I'm sad how dominant led bling etc is rather than actual performance focus. Every bit as bad as "performance modifications" on cars ;)

I'm not a huge fan of most of their stuff, though I had an original DeathAdder that was excellent. The successor didn't seem good so I went with a Zowie FK and frankly it's not as good. I lasted a short time on it before going for a Mionix which is excellent - but more expensive than any of the others had been. Was there a point to this ramble? I guess just that not all of their products are terrible. The Deathadder felt plasticky but worked well, was one of the few to come in a big enough size for me and lasted so while it could seem like cheap tat it turned out much better. That's not to say a lot of their stuff isn't overpriced rubbish...

In fairness from the outside I always saw Razer as a bit of a gimmick with their obsession with green leds etc. Then I tried a friends deathadder, and bought one (although the stealth, without leds ;)). Then had a ducky shine keyboard which I retired after trying a friends blackwidow ultimate... As such I've ended up looking quite the fanboy!

Got their extended mouse mat too which I've got no complaints about (although the other half does as it's not exactly aesthetically pleasing lol)
