Do you need, or is it recommended, to install Internet Security or Anti-Virus on Android phones?

Any apps will be downloads via the App store but I expect you can still get trouble when visiting websites.

Are there any recommended Internet Security or Anti-Virus software best suited for Android phiones? By 'best suited' I mean very secure (detects threats asap), no adverts (pop-ups), and is low on using the phones resources (doesn't slow the phone)?

Thanks.

use avast myself.
as for pop up and ads only way is to root your phone to get system access and install ad remover. For some reason that no longer works on my moto g, ads are still there.

If you're more worried about pop ups and infected ads from sites, you're better off using a browser with an adblocker. Samsung Internet with any content blocker (ABP, Adblock Fast, Adguard, etc) works pretty well. Don't think any AV app can stop those.

An antivirus for a phone? I don't think you really need one. Just a bit of common sense on what you click on and install.

I use an ad blocker and nothing else. Never had a virus on my phone that I am aware of.

No. Common sense and that is all.
Don't let these AV companies fool you into thinking you NEED an AV or security product. All they do is slow things down on the performance end of things. This isn't Windows (yet) and whilst malware does exist, as long as you're using the Play store you should be fine.

There are many browsers that block out of the box. Brave is one of them, and is superb to use. No Chrome bookmarks syncing though as google killed off the API.

All they do is check the hash of the APK you install against a known DB of bad ones. There's no need to use one, it's pointless.

No.

Always use the latest version of Android.
Don't root.
Don't sideload APKs from unknown sources.
Don't install obscure apps from Google Play.
