Some of you my have seen in the photos of my garden, i'm pretty useless at gardening. So i'm looking for some reading recommendations.

The style i'm going tor is tropical but hardy as i don't have a green house up yet or space to bring things in for over winter. Already have some small palms, banana plants, acers and a yucca and they are just put in the boarder. I have a south facing garden i would want plants in the boarders on the south and west sides.

ThereIs0nly0ne's garden in the post you garden thread is amazing and kinda of thing i'd like to eventually get to.

So, any books you recommend?

I really don't understand gardening when it comes to flowers, etc.

Everything I grow is something that I can use. Garlic, strawberries, raspberries, apples, mint, coriander, lavendar and rosemary.

The wife however has all sorts of flowers dotted about everywhere. Roses, etc. I get that they look nice but they are just so much hassle IMO. I'd prefer low maintenance any day of the week.

We have 1 as our garden has been on hold for two years but it has a lot of information on things to consider when designing a garden; heights of plants positions, layout of paths, arches, ponds all kinds of things.
Of course the internet has a huge amount of information but it's useful to have it all in one place to flick to easily.
The book we have is RHS Encyclopedia of Gardening, it's a bout £15-£20.

Whats a book?

Internet = Free, tons of information

The internet lacks the tactile beauty of a book. The medium is ephemeral and your favourite site could be gone and the content lost at the drop of a hat. To borrow from French cuisine a book has terroir.

Even further off topic but maybe in Pycho Sonny's area, John Seymour godfather of the modern smallholder movement wrote a beautiful book called the Self Sufficient Gardener.

not sure how the internet is not all in place... its all right at your finger tips

I've already been looking on the internet and yeah there is lots of information but it's all over the place. Like thezappa said books are great as all the information is on one place.

The book we have is RHS Encyclopedia of Gardening, it's a bout £15-£20.

I'll have a look, cheers

If you have Facebook check out the group Hardy Tropicals - https://www.facebook.com/groups/HTUK01/ some very knowledgeable guys in there and 90% is UK based
Also the the website - Hardy Tropicals

Book wise you could look at Big Leafs for Exotic Effect not personally read it but seen it mentioned a few times in the above group and website.

For buying plants look at the following sites

https://www.hardy-palms.co.uk/
http://www.thetropicalplantcompany.co.uk/

I have recently bought a few plants from the following group and the prices are normally a lot cheaper than garden centres or online shops

A Google search for "tropical gardening books" brought up quite a few results, with several titles on Amazon at top of list (won't post specific links) so worth a go by OP?

don't underestimate youtube, that would be my first port of call. Can't help you on specific channels, if it doesn't produce anything edible then what's the point.
