Got caught on the M1 doing 48 in a 40 variable, then a few weeks later 36 in a 30 by a van.
Both bang to rights if somewhat annoyingly close to the usual tolerances. :(

The M1 is my first ever offence but didn't get offered the course yet its well within the usual guidelines, does this mean the 2nd offence will now no longer offer a course?

My understanding is you only get offered the course if its your first offence, so just wondering if i can play the closeness of the offences to my advantage and reply to the 2nd NIP before paying & surrendering my license for the first offence in the hope that they will offer the course.
Slim chance i know :)

It's up to the presiding police force if you get offered one - I guess where you were caught the force doesn't offer that option .

I broke the law, can I negotiate my punishment please?

As amigafan put, sounds like the land of roundabouts police force doesn't offer it.

It's nothing to do with a first offence, you get offered a course if you're within the guidelines and have never done one before. However, that offer is only given after you send back the NIP with your driver nomination.

If there are places that you never speed it's 30 zones and motorway speed reduction parts/road works.

My offer was with the NIP, not after and I had to respond differently depending if I wanted to take it up or not

You were speeding far in excess of the limit, not once but twice and in 30mph zone. Instead of posting this you should be ashamed of yourself and lose your licence...

36 in a 30 is nothing, you can pick up 6mph by going slightly downhill etc so can be easily done.

Lol I deserve the child killer remarks. There's no defence and I should have known better especially the m1. The 30 limit is a bit of a harsher one as it was just after a 40 zone and I was just coasting down to 30.

Will send the 2nd nip off and just hope this constabulary is nicer than the 1st :(

I can see it now, downhill slope given as reason for speeding.

Yeah but no, 30mph doesn't need a racing driver to control.

Sure, people out of sheer laziness or actual desire to exceed the limit will go with the slope but put a police car behind them and watch the meticulous adherence to the speed limit.

So it's 43 mph for the 1st and 33mph for the 2nd......... because they usually give you a tolerance of +3mph over the limit before they do you, i've got to attend a SOC on the 28th which is better than a 6 month ban i suppose.............you get offered SOC when they feel like it, because this is my 1st SOC course and i've been done for speeding loads of times...........and that's only in a Jazz ;)

I just did a course. First ever speeding offence. Was doing 48 in a 40 leading into a 50 (guess where they were waiting? haha).

Anyway, I was sent the initial NIP and a leaflet about the course plus the request for info which I returned. I was then sent another letter offering me course, points or court. Obviously took the course, was 4 hours, a good laugh and I learnt a little something if nothing else and was £79 lighter.

I think two in quick succession is a bit much, it's worth a query as you're still within the 28 days to return info for the first and second stages of the proceedings however you're getting at least 3 points I'm afraid. Just call them.

Never done it yourself then?

On a side note I'd add 3 hours of reddit / watchpeopledie (vehicular related) to that speed awareness course..
