What's the point of IMDB now?

I used to use IMDB for the forums to see what people had to say about the film. I do agree with them, it had turned into a cesspool of bickering children but you could gleams an idea of what the film was like.
Now they have gone and it seems that the critic reviews are bought and paid for, the only thing it offers in the way of truth is cast members bios and their previous films, which is now all I use it for.
I go to RT for everything else.

Seems to me that IMDB has terrible terrible ratings. For instance Slamma Jamma http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5319866/ get's an 8.0 from 700 votes. Not a massive amount but this film is not well acted, cliche riddled B movie worth a 3/4.0 at best.

With a lot of the info avalible elsewhere, what is the point of IMDB?

Yep, as I said in the previous thread regarding the forum closure there isn't much point from my PoV. I haven't been there since the closures as I loved using the forums for oddball films and TV shows like most.

You could?
I generally found those toxic children skewed opinion quite a lot, both in the reviews and on the forums. People who hated a film seemed more likely to vent their hatred than those who enjoyed it.

I think it's the general functionality, though perhaps more useful on IMDB-Pro, although I've not used that in a while...

I enjoyed the forums for the more obscure flicks with opinions and perspectives. Shame. Rarely visit it now. Silly IMDb.

it's a shame the studios haven't thought to do like a 2 or 3 minute compilation of scenes to give you a synopsis of an upcoming film isn't it? that way you could see what it was all about and make your own mind up instead of going by some anonymous internet pleb's opinion.

To look up what other films , shows people have been in when I can't remember where I've seen them before.

Ha. What a crock of ****. When has the manipulated best scenes from a movie been a yard stick for the quality of the other 99%.
Probably the stupidest thing i've ever read. :)

hahaha what a crock. when has the opinions of someone completely different to yourself been the yardstick to decide whether you'll enjoy a film or not?
definitely the stupidest thing i've ever read :-D
seriously. "ooh, i can't make my own mind up about something, i need to read what other people think about it. damn IMDB for spoiling films for me!!"

yeah i rarely use it these days, i seem to go to metacritic to see the reviews and i just google or use wikipedia for other info.
