Finsbury Park Van Attack

Sorry you've lost me. Maybe you are right?

However what does replacing political leaning with religion achieve?

He wants me to do more in 'my community' because by his logic out political leanings make us accountable for one another.

I am not religious, so replacing my political leaning with atheism would just imply I am now accountable for any bad thing an atheist does? And I should condemn it?

"Islam is to blame", "the Islamic community need to deal with their own" are two phrases that come up frequently when Islamist attacks occur.

He's associating you with the attacker because you both have right wing political leanings (assuming the attacker does, they usually do), just as many do to Muslims and Islamists.

You are rightly pointing out that you are nothing like him and are not accountable for him. That's exactly what the majority of Muslims feel like when their religion is criticized.

Nothing to do with you being religious. :p

Yes, that's the joke. Any time a Muslim commits a violent act people whinge about Muslims not doing enough to tackle these dangerous elements supposedly in their community.

Now a white man has done the same. How are you, a member of the white man community, going to take responsibility for tackling this blight?
One is a voluntarily held ideology, the other is a hard-wired genetic feature. Not comparable.

A lot of white men believe its their right to protect "their home" and still believe that britain is for the british, that their actions are in some way ok because they are kicking out foreigners that are here to destroy our lands. Its the theme for just about every alien war film ever made. Aliens invade and we beat em back however we can. Until the idea of them and us gets removed white men "defending their homeland" will find ways to justify all retaliation acts and any response from muslims / isis will just be more fuel for the fire

you're comparing a belief system with race

it surely it is 'islamophobes' you ought to be asking to condemn the attack... though I don't see that they specifically need to just as I don't see that ordinary muslims need speak up any more than anyone else re: Islamist attacks.

Hopefully no one will be silly enough to claim that this was 'nothing to do with Islamophobia' or that the attacker wasn't a 'true Islamophobe' though - there are clearly problems within Islam just as there are clearly problems within Islamophobic groups.

Ahhhh. Maybe I did miss the joke.

Put it down to me never really understanding why the public yearns for such public apologies or condemnations for atrocities committed by a few lunatics from people who have a similar skin complexion, or similar religious affinity or political leaning

Islamaphobia doesn't exist, any sane person who studies islam should rightly reject and oppose it's oppression and influence on our society.

[“Islamophobia” as Christopher Hitchens once dubbed “a word created by fascists, used by cowards, to manipulate morons." QUOTE]

Saw the guy on the news saying how the police need to protect the muslim community. Really!
Well they do, the Police need to protect everyone, or do you think its Ok for terrorists to kill Muslims just because they aren't white?

Are you suggesting they dont need protecting?

every law abiding citizen british born or foreign has the right to feel safe here. I fully back anyone who wishes to got to town on an actually convicted terrorist white black or asian but as said this is just more tit for tat hate crime attacking those innocently going about their day and these people need and deserve our protection

I was explaining the joke, not making a specific claim as to its veracity ;)

Is it just me who assumed the mosque had been shut down ages ago?

See below:

Apparently, the Muslim community feel threatened and are saying it's not safe to walk
down Britain's streets. Welcome to life in the UK today.

Many of us have had a good few years to get used
to this already! It's somewhat ironic that so many calls for police intervention are now
coming from outside Finsbury Park Mosque, a stark contrast with how welcome they'd
have been a while ago....

"The Egyptian hate preacher Hamza was Imam at the five-storey red brick mosque from
1997 until 2003 and under his leadership it became synonymous with Islamist extremism in the UK.

As Hamza attracted a circle of extremist acolytes to the Mosque, he also strengthened his
grip by bullying and excluding anyone who did not support him.

A number of terrorists were linked to the Mosque, including shoe bomber Richard Reid,
who attempted to detonate explosives on an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami in 2001.

In January 2003, police raided the building as part of a major investigation into an alleged plot to
produce ricin poison. They sealed the mosque and returned it to the trustees.

But even though he was denied a base, Hamza continued to preach outside the gates every
Friday in a stand-off with the authorities."

Seems "the authorities" are now being asked to help. I wonder how the authorities feel about that...

Funny old world.

Source of info on the Mosque's history is today's Daily Telegraph

They will do something rather than talk about doing it this time, just watch.
They do plenty to protect everyone from Islamic terrorism as well, though there seems to be a lot more of that to go round, and I imagine they're rather better at it than our lot of copy cats.
