Otto Warmbier, 15 years hard labour?

retaliate in some way (obviously not with direct military actions) but some form of reprisals/repercussion for this

I don't think letting another country kill a citizen in this way is something that should just be ignored

for example when Pakistan locked up the CIA agent who helped provide the location for Bin Laden for 30 years the US deducted 30 million from Pakistan's regular US aid package

in this case perhaps they can add on further sanctions

I struggle to find much sympathy for the kid. I'm surprised they even bothered to release him to die. Here's a pro tip: If you go on an insulting tourist holiday to one of the worlds most totalitarian nations on earth and steal something, you get the **** beaten out of you. Boo Hoo.

When I'm Ruler of Efouristan i will kill all of you one by one.

Really?

He's a thief, a bloody thief in NK of all places to be one... Sure it deserves a response, but is one bloody thief worth possible nuclear intervention? That'd be extreme ludicrousness that only Trump could call upon.

His main crime was being an American in NK at just the wrong time. Stealing a flag wasn't worth death.

But what specifically do you suggest to do to retaliate?

NK has very limited reliance on western economic relationships. There is little the US can do that would ruin Kim Jong Uns day, without military action, something the US, SK, Nk and China do not want.

Anything the US does that will effect NK will probably just get printed in the NK newspaper the next day, describing it a weak futile attempt to break NK strength and loyalty.

being a thief is irrelevant to this really and your chat of nuclear intervention is ludicrous tbh.. you are aware there are already some sanctions on North Korea?

you don't need to ruin his day per say, but there ought to be a reaction to this/price to pay by NK

Except it isnt silly, the sanctions are worthless when the nation is a complete shambles in the first place, maybe if NK absolutely depended on the Americans for their survival it'd be a intelligent ask. Let alone trying to get sanctions due to one man past Chinese Veto.

You're not making much sense, no one said anything about UN sanctions - what the US chooses to do unilaterally is up to it alone.

But he committed a crime ad was sentenced according to that countries rules.

It's like an American getting done for stealing in the uk and them deciding to cut ties.

Why would you put 350 million at risk because of 1 criminal

no he was tortured and died as a result... I'm not advocating putting anyone at risk, I'm advocating responding to a citizen being killed

The other thing to think here is how friendly do you think NK inmates would treat an American prisoner?

It's all well and good saying NK should have protected him etc but the USA is hardly high up there on prison safety and rights.

Iirc when you take into account prisons in the USA there are more male on male rapes than male on female.

Something I think only the democratic republic of Congo beats them on

Well you're just making that up aren't you.

You have zero idea how he came to be in this condition.

You're talking as if no body dies in our prisons.

Also talking like we don't torture people either

we've got a pretty good idea - torture...

this isn't just a random death and no we don't torture people in our prisons..

the US might in Guantanamo re: waterboarding - though not exactly to the extent where they end up in a coma!

3,500 people died in 2013 in US prisons (last year for stats)

Who's getting sanctions for them dowie?

totally irrelevant
