Hi,

Does anyone know of such a device in the title where you don't have to touch your phone to change tracks or receive calls?

Music is more important answering calls is a bonus, I just want to be able to leave my phone in my pocket, stream music over Bluetooth via AUX and be able to change tracks

Thanks

That Sony device looks like a fairly cheap and simple way to achieve what you're asking but I would assume if your phone rings and you wanted to hear the caller from the car's speakers you'd have to manually change the head unit's input to aux (if you were listening to the radio or a CD) :). Just something to consider.

You could probably pick up a second hand parrot for about that money (the cost of that Sony). That's close to what I was expecting when I put my MKi 9200 on ebay. That would also give you USB, SD card, ipod control, aux in as well as reasonable stereo integration.

yeah they need fitting properly though I want plug and play everything can just sit in the arm rest storage area

pressing aux for calls isn't an issue, the fact it takes calls hands free is a big bonus

cheers for the vid link ill give it a watch

Meh, it's not that difficult to fit. When I took mine out it was just a harness between the box and the original speaker harness, then the screen run out beside the stereo, and the connections into the glovebox. Sure, it was a radio out job, but it really wasn't in the slightest bit difficult, and would have taken about 30 mins to do I would guess. And that was in a mk5 Golf where there is a reasonable amount of dash stripping to do the stereo. It would be a much more comprehensive system overall too.

Of course, I get that some people just can't be hooped, and just want to plug something into a cigarette lighter.

Of course, the same argument that you were using to justify the Parrot (which by the way I'm all for, but can understand why someone might not want to go running cables round the car) that buying used will be close to the cost of the Sony device, can be used to reduce the cost of the Sony device.

One on eBay at present for £35 buy it now, also open to best offer too. You won't get a decent Parrot for close to that.

Sure. I get that. But if the OP's budget stretches that far, then it would have been the better option, had he wished a comprehensive solution that required a little installation.

But sure, if the plan is a device to do only music streaming, and maybe calls (albeit possibly awkwardly), as cheaply as a reasonable device can be found, with minimal mess-a-boutery, then a second hand Sony thing would probably do that.

(was looking for something similar myself into aux in, on older alpine)

is there any information on quality of the blue tooth music transmission for the sony (or Parrot for that matter) from sony manual seems it supports mp3/aac, where you transfer the compressed audio via bluetooth (so should be better than apt-x), but what kind of bit rates, and is the digital->analogue OK.

(I had considered trying to use a chromecast audio device since music was also the most important aspect.)

Yup, I'm only doing it because I've decided to keep the car another year. I'm happy to buy new and sell it on for £30 or so too, means it inly cost me £30/40 in the end

I'm still going have a look at that eBay one just now though, tempting if its complete

Why not pay £18 more and buy an entire headunit? I have this in my Clio and it's brilliant for the BT connectivity. It auto connects when entering/leaving the car, displays track info on the display and you can control everything from the headunit. The phone menu is really intuitive also as you can browse by Recents, missed, phonebook or recently dialled.

I have this in my Passat: http://www.halfords.com/technology/...play-kenwood-kdc-bt700dab-digital--car-stereo

I couldn't really agree with you more to be honest. It's a much better solution for everything, and would likely come with the benefit of better sound quality due to the more powerful amps. The one I have also has DAB, which is a nice little bonus.

For double DIN install, I have this in my Alhambra: https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-cde-w235bt_p-27486.htm and it does a fine job too, although navigating folder structure on USB is a bit of a pain, otherwise it's a decent enough bit of kit, easy to fit, and works very well for bluetooth. I got it because it was one of the cheapest "premium" branded double DIN stereos with BT. And I haven't regretted it. This one might be cheap enough second hand: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alpine-CD...965411?hash=item4b19d56fe3:g:hUIAAOSwstJZQuUv

But then again though, it does look like an expensive facia being required. So with that, I'd still aim for a Parrot. Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parrot-Mki9200-/182626132900?hash=item2a855da3a4:g:db8AAOSwX9FZNvfJ
