never had so much positive feedback on a car.

Example, a BMW M140i starts from a quarter of the price, does 0-60 in 4.8s, is vastly more practical and has a better engine.

You'd be mad to buy an i8 at the price range it is. F-Type / TTRS / Cayman are all better coupes at much cheaper price points.
I think you're missing the point if all you're interested in is outright performance. @Housey what are the running costs like? Buttons per mile compared to anything Pioneer has mentioned in his post I'm sure?

I think the reason you get so much positive feedback op is from all the POV spec 1,2 and 3 series drivers who like to think they have a little slice of that luxury that you have because it has a BMW badge on it therefore they applaud it rather than key it with jealousy.
Even though it's a nice car I just don't stand looking at them when I see one like i do if I come across a nice Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin etc it just doesn't have the wow factor like they do image wise

Housey probably pays more to run his R8 V10 than a guy with a 140i does ;)

What's the point in that childish reply? Idiot.
What I must be jealous or deluded because I'm not gushing all over an I8?
It's not my cup of tea at all I could list a ton of cars I would rather have at that price point. To me it doesn't stand out like other 100+k supercars do.
I've lost count of how many people I've heard of having there expensive sports cars keyed or abuse shouted at them out of jealousy that's why I made a valid point of saying it's probably applauded more than say a Porsche etc because those that own lower examples of a BMW etc think "ohhh it's a BMW I have one of those" or the type of pleb on social media that drives a 116d but just lists there car as "BMW" and goes round taking pics of I8's or M3's etc and post them on there page to impress people and make them think it's there car

Perhaps, but in an i8 you're less likely to look like you've borrowed your mum's car for the day.

Better is subjective. Yes the i8 is a bit of a marmite car, I get that, but for someone like me who is rather old and was brought up on great 80's BMW's, the i8 is very appealing to me, and clearly a lot of other people too.

It is much quicker than an M140. Car and driver got it to 60 in under 4 seconds:

Why are you even indulging such a ridiculous post? They're completely different cars, built for different purposes and aimed at different markets. The i8 is clearly a technological showcase where BMW just said "screw it, let's go hell for leather" whereas the M140 is a shopping trolley with a faster engine.

They're not even remotely similar, and pandering to anyone eho compares the two is just defeating the purpose of the i8 altogether.

They're slow, sound naff, impractical, have a boring BMW interior and have too skinny tires for the performance it's aiming at. Oh and it's overpriced.

Not sure what's to like really. It's a gimmick just so BMW could tick the hybrid box.

Well I have owned 335i's, Z4 35is, Cayman GT4, twin turbo 4.4l M6, a hand full of 911's and a bunch of other cars. On paper yes its probably not the fastest car out there but it has very usable power, yes a 911 will leave it for dust on a track but around london and B roads its a lot of fun.

Tyres are a bit too skinny.

Are they all in that colour? :p I don't think I've seen one in anything but.... either that or it's the same car I keep noticing :D

I think they only came in 3 colours, I'm considering buying this one (will swap the alloys) as I quite fancy a white one.

One question though, the BMW guys were having to go out on to the track and "charge" the cars quite often, I didn't quite get a full explanation of it but assume it's some sort of energy recovery. Why would they have to do that? Do you have to be pushing really hard or is there a technique to charging on the move?

when you put it into sport mode and drive it fast it charges the batteries. I don't bother to plug it in as its too expensive where I live but I charge it on the motorway on the way to london and then drive all the way though london with a batteries.

I keep seeing you around!

Im leaving soon (August) drop me a line and we can grab a drink one day.

Manufactures seem to play it safe to much nowadays, copying each other producing dull, uninteresting cars.

Nice to see a change on the roads these days.

It looks like something I drew as a child (at least what I aimed to draw), and that's a very very good thing. This is what these kind of cars should look like.

They are quite a big car now I revisit this picture I took of mine parked next to a friends a few weeks back.

The next revision will be fully electric I think. Like a Tesla. Not sure if that's as appealing because you will constantly have to worry about range like in all EVs.
