Sat on labour ward with my gf who was induced 2 weeks early, labour currently stands at 16 hours, waters still not broken. Our first child took 7 hrs so this ones being stubborn.

Ah ****. Best of luck. My view is the moment anything starts going different (induction/sweep/etc), demand a c-section (which you're perfectly entitled to do).

From my (admittedly limited, anecdotal) experience it's going to end up being a c-section, and you avoid all the unpleasantness in between.

We've been lucky in that our two have been fairly straightforward natural births, but our 3rd's due in October and that's our agreed plan of action.

How come your gf's been induced early? Is the baby looking big?

16 hours is very long. my 1st was about 13 hours after my wife was induced, the next longest was about 7 hours. the quickest being about 40 mins and barely made the hospital

Our little girl just arrived 5 days ago :))))))

Wife was in labour almost 4 days, and eventually we went for the c section once the doctor's recommended (we probably would have taken it earlier at that point).

We were at an end, but we got through. So I guess it varies. Have faith in the medical personnel and they will do the rest. Amazing job the midwives do!

She was induced because of reduced movement. I think the induction procedure can take a while. Contractions getting stronger and longer.

Our twins came via c section

You (male) sit in the corner of this huge room like a spare tool while your Mrs is sat on a operating table on her own as about 15 people rush around her , must be a very scary thing not only for her but for her thinking about their children.

I will never forget how brave my mrs was that day, a lot braver than I would have thought

Incidently when finished and put in the cool down room thingy we heard some bird giving it the beans as her baby was comming , kind of made me happy about the c section, our kids were breached so had no choice but it was all done with in a very short period of time

I came home that night grabbed myself a beer and shed some man tears .. emotional day

Good luck buddy

Guys 'sitting on a maternity ward' doesn't count as the start of labour. All this 'my wife/gf was in labour for three months' one-upmanship is a bit silly!

With mine, labour started at 11pm and my son arrived and 2pm the following day so, 15 hours.
No epi, just gas and air. Mrs is a hero.

16 hours unless you count from waters breaking (then its 19).
Uncomfortable, hot, sweaty, no food and i had to pay for parking. Worth it though.
She probably didn't notice though.

My girlfriend was induced at 1300 (we were 13 days past her due date at this point), started labor at around 1500 hours and baby was born at 1217 the following day so around 21 hours.

Good luck to you and your other half, hope it all goes well.

With my son (first born), total labour was around 16 hours with a C section in the end due to complications at birth

My daughter was around 4 hours in total, normal birth.

Obviously the end result was great but the whole labour thing sucked big time.....I suppose it wasnt that great for my wife either :p

Wife's labour pains started just after midnight, went into hospital around 5am and daughter born just after 3pm.

I still remember getting an earful for attempting a much needed snooze on the hospital bed while she was rolling on a giant gym ball trying to find a comfortable position!

first one was about 52 hours , a botched epidural and an emergency section. second one was a planned section :p

Well no, its not really labour if your sat at home waiting for something to happen. I think most people realise that though - my wife spent over a day trying to get from 9 to 10cm dilation.....

Anyway, nothing to be proud of going through all that. That's why the second was a planned section, first time round just took too much out of her.
