I never installed a smart meter and I am happy I didnt

Theoretically, yes. But they still have to follow the same legal procedure as they would with dumb meters. They're not allowed to just hit a kill switch willy-nilly.

Non payment of a debt would usually result in the removal of a credit meter and the installation of a pay as you go meter. The debt is then recovered over time. If access is refused, then a visit under warrant with Police and a locksmith can happen.

it should be in the newspapers. the government is funding this programme and it's a complete waste of taxpayers money why aren't the MP's involved being held responsible? until their is a standardised version each one installed is going to need replacing. no doubt whoever own the company in charge of installation is good mates with multiple Tory MP's.

should be complaining to watchdog, etc.

Ha ha, you do know it was a labour idea, back in 2008.
Do you always just blame who ever is in power at that moment in time.

If they've got their hands on the reins, then yes?

I'm sure the realisation of the concept has evolved much since 2008.

The smart meter roll out is a mess doesn't change the fact long term everyone will have one and that it is a good idea as it should allow everyone to take advantage of cheaper energy for mundane things like washing clothes and dishes.

We will all land up with them because the government wants us too, meters only have a limited lifespan so like it or not everyone will have one in the end.

They will give us access to cheap energy at night and other low points to encourage us to use power at this time and not at peak times which will save them or fortune in caseload capacity.

I think it will be other way around:

They will drive up the price of energy at peak times which will force us to use energy at night and other low points which will save them a fortune in caseload capacity.

Yeah they won't be doing anything for our benefit, I look forward to vacuuming at 1am because it's cheaper. Diy as well those pesky Sds drills use a lot of power. Lol

It's a competitive market someone will offer cheap off peak. This negative culture really doesn't achieve anything.

I think a lot of people haven't read the article.

So what happens when the price changes between picking it up and getting to the till? Surely that's legally on dodgy ground.

Would imagine it would only really work if they linked it all in with self scanning items before putting in your trolley.

So that the scanner picks price at time you get item off the shelf and charges that price, so that any price changes between that and getting to till to pay will be ignored.
