Some poeple are just desperate and would shag a Neanderthal!
Has he been convicted?Riiiiiight.
Because in no way did he leave the country when investigations started into child sex abuse, was told to attend a public inquiry and then stated he was 'too ill' to return.
Yup, completely innocent behaviour right there!
What is it with these dudes and diddling kids?
It's almost as if when people try to proclaim how virtuous they are, they are actually hiding something/compensating.
Exactly, and what is to stop him from going back to Aus to face these charges? I am presuming he is still at the Vatican.Riiiiiight.

No. he hasn't been convicted. Personal views aside, this is a typical "guilty before proven innocent" response. Whatever your opinions of the what the guy stands for, he is still a human being with an entitlement to his good name, same as every other good sir on this forum.Has he been convicted?
well there are significantly more gay people in the priesthood (in % terms) than in wider society - part of that might be the celibacy thing, they're brought up Catholics, they know they're gay and believe it is a 'sin' etc... this is a career they can chose where being unmarried isn't going to lead to questions being asked etc...
I wonder if there is a similar effect for the paedos, there might also be a bit of a cross over between both groups - the whole older gay/young boy thing (I not implying that all gay priests are a danger here)
The 'Church' will hide anything.
Religion - That unique club that has caused more deaths and abuse in history, but still paints itself as the only way to live.
Sooner we evolve and get rid of it all, the better.

What difference does that make? If he did it he did it, convicted or not, his behaviour is indicative of guilt. We can only go on the available information.
That's kinda why trials were invented, to hear both sides of the story. Shall we wait until the jury makes a decision rather than base our judgement on what the media say?
Yet we don't know anything about his behaviour. Have you met the guy? All we're going off are third hand (and more) stories and here's some possible news for you - people lie. As can be seen from this thread people clearly have agendas against the church. It's a forum, we should be free to speculate on news stories as they develop, otherwise you might as well lock every thread like this until the trial is over.
It's perfectly reasonable to comment on someones behaviour, indeed the courts will make inferences based on this sort of conduct.

Tale as old as time, the more vulturous you make yourself look in the eyes of others, the bigger the hypocrite that person usually is. And i speak about this in all religions, all the same
The Catholic church are disgusting, my ex was repeatedly raped as a child, when it was reported to the police, the police told the church and the vicar was whisked away to Ireland to avoid a criminal conviction. I hate them.
Catholics have vicars?
Sounds like the police were quite remiss there? Was there any investigation to follow up?
