Are gay folks getting too much attention?

Replace the word homosexual with heterosexual in any of these "I tolerate homosexual people but..." speeches and you get an idea of how intolerance lies behind the words.

No-one would seriously say something like "I'm fine with straight people, I just wish they'd keep it behind closed doors.". It sounds ridiculous to anyone who doesn't hate heterosexuals.

Hi Chris. Many thanks for tolerating me. Can you let me know what I am meant to keep to myself. Is holding hands or having a quick peck on the lips with my partner too much for you to stomach. In that case I'll contact the gay council and spread the message that we need to stay behind closed doors. Thanks

P.s I missed the memo where being gay = messing around with underage kids. I think you also need to send the memo out to your straight community and religious institutions too.

Sincerely
A flamboyant screaming fabulous queen

I snorted. Like...actual snorting.

You screaming queen you.

I'm not an OOT gay, camp gay. I am a "straight acting" gay who never came out of the closet. Most gays don't have a problem with the OOT ones either. It's almost as if gay people were as diverse as straight people and not one big amorphous blob.

From your tone you must thing I am hysterically hyperventilating at the stupid comments in this thread. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I am usually a live and let live kinda guy but the comments in this thread riled me up. The very fact this thread exists is the reason why it exists.

A bunch of straight, white, guys wondering what all the fuss is about.

You are the literal embodiment of the reason why homophobia exists.

Hit me up when you've put the victim card down and are willing to have a conversation like a grown up.

I tolerate heterosexual people, but I don't like it when they show public display of affections and don't like people openly flaunting their sexuality. They should keep it to themselves like normal folk....

Not really that much of an issue?

Understood. You don't like one gay person so it justifies hating all gay people. Got ya.

Sorry being savagely beaten enough to go to hospital by a straight person is somehow an inconvenience to you when I play a victim card.

As long as you feel the same with hetrosexuals couples I don't mind that point of view.

Edit.... Oooops misread post

I'm assuming you feel the same way about 'normal people' and public displays of affection?

Going by your attitude in this thread, I suspect that being gay might not have been the entire reason you had six bells mashed out of you, and I can't say I feel sorry for you.

At the end of the day the whole point of my OP is it shouldn't even be taken in to consideration. Gay, straight, bi, man, woman, whatever. It shouldn't matter so why are the media making such a big deal of it? If everyone just accepted everyone else for who they are the world would be a much nicer place to live. It's a dream obviously, but the media aren't helping matters by singling people out for their sexuality.

Yeah it can't be that I am this way because of the beating. No in your brain it is justified that I got beat up. It's the reason I never came out and I probably never will. A small display of affection a decade or so ago ruined my life.

The reason there is so much "forcing it down your throat" is because it's NOT tolerated out in the real world. Media or not, tv programme or not, you can't say anything that is aimed at gay people is justified purely because of how they are.

...I clearly put heterosexual.

My point is that folks should just get on with their lives. I think homosexuality is a shame because of the lack of having children, having the natural diversity of another gender etc but that's not my problem.
.
I just don't really like overt references to either. I find it distasteful with women/men wearing overly camp stuff to be off putting in a public place........the same as I would a straight couple.

Agree.

Frankly homosexuals should be more worried about a large influx of an intolerant religion. That's going to be a concern in a few years!

I don't understand this point at all, what about the numerous straight couples now that don't want children?

There's some really bizarre stuff in this thread.

I'm not saying I'm correct in every case but frankly a lot of these posts come across as very subtle, possibly even subconsious attempts by people to rationalize their discomfort and intolerence of homosexuality. I'm struggling to think of any other reason why people are getting so irate over this utter non-issue.

I think I'll leave this post here. Coming from a gay guy I don't think your homophobic at all and I can understand to an extent what your saying in your OP.

I think it's hard to get a perspective from my point of view though unless your gay. Like I said before... The law may be on my side but look at attitudes on this thread alone. As long as I keep my gayness behind closed doors... Including hand holding, kissing I'm alright. That's going out on a date out the window then. Basically I must be invisible whilst straight couples can do all that.

Yes there may be inproportional representation about the LGBT in the media... But I think that is blown out of proportion .... I bet if you actually documented couples seen on TV at the moment .... The ratio might even show the opposite is true. It's only because you have noticed gays on TV you think there's too much. Do an experiment now and flick through 20 channels and tell me how many gay couples Vs straight couples you see. I have the music channel on at the moment and all I've seen for the past 30 Min is guys singing to the camera with a bunch of half naked ladies surrounding him.

Blame religion. Humans evolved so that a sticky outy bit fits into an inny thing and creates life means that is how it was meant to be and anything that is outside that "norm" is an abhorrent deviation. The meaning of life is procreation and continuation of the species apparently.

That's just my background. I was part of a large family, and I think people get a lot of happiness and purpose from a family.

As a society we're told its expensive ruins your life yada yada yada, but I think their wrong.

But if folks don't want it that's cool. Just my opinion....

And I'll add one more thing.... If people seriously think being gay is tolerated in this society... Go on walk in the city centre holding your mates hand and report how you felt here when you get back.
