Hey smogsy

The quest for silence coming to a conclusion - looking forward to your build/results. :)

It's a quality build and the slight tweaks to the original spec, since we last posted, have made it even more so - but it's a good feeling have the best when funds aren't an issue.

Apart from the addition of the 1800X you've upped the PSU - is the reasoning for this so it runs at ~60% at load so the fan is less likely to kick in (silence pursuit) or are you thinking SLI at a later date?

Is it still the modded 1080ti Aorus Extreme going in?

The new official BIOS update should hopefully see you at 3200MHz - but it's still a bit hit and miss - but i've had success with those sticks even on the BETA BIOS.

1. 650W > 750W is £20, as noted it will allow quieter operation + If i ever get a Really hungry CPU/GPU combo later it will be good their too
2. 1800X After research only way to get better/same than a 5930K is go 1800X, Plus 1800X seem to have a lower Voltage than a 1700/1700x + OC.
3. modded Aorus yes. un-modded testing (with a fan right on top of it) 65C at 750RPM on light gaming or heavy 75C at 2000RPM
4. i was tempted by the 8 pack chips (guaranteed b die, but heat-spreader is massive so probably wont work with the bigger cooler

I figured you you would have all bases covered - makes sense - look forward to your build log.

Keep me posted - and best of of luck with the build.

I'd back you 100% on the 1800x, honestly it's worth the extra money just to have confidence in the performance if you really can't be bothered to put days in to tuning a 1700. Yes the 1700 is good value but I love my 1800x, first config booted 4.1 no problems, run it 24/7 at 4.0 at 1.395v (i could probably squeeze a little but not need). You'll not regret it!

Can I tempt you with the Hyperx RAM? The new sticks I've just scored the 3600 at £180 and it works at that speed but only stable 3466 or lower. Pretty happy with it for the price...
