Hi all,

Following on from this

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/pc-not-booting-after-installing-nzxt-hue-lights.18784899/

I have just tested with Furmark and it got right up to 65+ degree and the fans still didn't spin. I think that rules out the theory that they only spin when needed?

Anyone got any ideas on something I can / should check before I stump out some cash to upgrade to something?

I really don't game on my PC much at all so a shame to need to upgrade the gfx card for this.

Hmmm

Any thoughts appreciated!

As I say, it could have been like this for ages and I simply only noticed when fitting the LEDs

Mine were £7, but hey man £11 ain't so bad.
Yours also an accelero twin turbo ii? And the card worked fine but both fans didn't?

Just trying to work out if it is likely the same issue or not.

If you still have it, would you please be able to take a picture showing the colours and positioning of the wires in the connector for me to compare? As the connector did get pulled off one of the cables but I believe this was after I realised that it wasn't working anyway

Don't want to buy a new one for it to actually be a wiring issue

Ouch.. how badly damaged is it? It may be possible to connect the fan to controller or mobo if it uses standard fan headers, of course. I did that back in the 480 days with a zalman aftermarket one.

That's the thing. I managed to attach the pins back into the connector in what I believe to be the right order... And power is reaching the gfx card fans

Just wanted to verify if possible with someone who has the same cooler

No I wanted them for a 480 Lightning with a damaged fan.

In that price range you're looking at a GTX 1050Ti. It'll run circles around your 460. Not HUGE circles, mind you. You're looking at about 2TFLOPS vs less than 1TFLOP, 4X the VRAM, about double the firestrike score.
Your 2500K is more than enough to run alongside a 1050Ti.

Thanks!

Just for reference (roughly if you know)... What sort of settings could I be expecting to run a modern game at with that? Say the new project cars 2 coming out?

I don't mind upping the budget slightly if there is a better card for a bit more... But not if it will require a processor upgrade too.

Many thanks!

You can expect medium or high settings in most games at 1080P resolution. Some non demanding games you will be able to run at ultra. Project Cars 2 I can't speak to since its not out yet.
You can google "GAME NAME 1050ti frames per second" and stuff like that to get a relative idea of performance.

If you could afford an RX 580 8GB instead of the 1050Ti that would be better, and a 1070 would be better than that, and a 1080 would be better than that, and so on, but you need to buy the best card for you and only you can decide what card that is after doing some research. The higher the performance the more diminished gains you will see in price vs performance.

Honestly you wouldn't bottleneck any modern GPU too much with that CPU except maybe a 1080 or 1080Ti. 2500K overclocked is still respectable. Intel CPUs havent advanced so much since 2011. Its sad really.

Thanks for the detailed response, really appreciate it! :)

I don't really want to spend that amount of money (580, 1070, etc.) for the amount I use the PC for gaming.

I think I will either go for a new 1050ti or a used 970 which someone also recommended to me. Just need to do some research and decide whether to get a new 1050ti with warranty etc or a used (but better) 970

Hmmm :)

You'd expect the graphics card fan connector to be the same as every other graphics card connector so a Google search should bring back the wiring convention.

Black red yellow blue is the general rule of thumb.

Thanks I'll take a look!
