Instagram.

Instacrap is the new aids on society now that farcebook seems to have fallen out of popularity (certinaly in my group of friends)

Where people have to post pictures of thier food before they eat it and constantly check "famous " peoples profiles to see what drivel they have decided to take a picture of.
good lord, get a grip. such bile over something so trivial

My nephews and their thousands of friends seem to be able to communicate through the medium of single letters and emoticons on Instagram.

Moving more towards 1984?
i don't think you know what 1984 is about.

I use it as a platform to share the gaming images I take, and my feed is mostly full with people who do the same thing.

I have a personal page also, where I share my photography work, not a diary of my life/dinner, I don't use it like that.

I don't do Facebook or Twitter etc.

Might sign up soon for photography purposes.
Seems to be the new dominant casual photography area.

Only other social thing I have is Facebook.
Never been interested in snap or twitter

Its hardly trivial. Next time you go out for a meal, just have a look around the restaurant/pub/mc donalds or wherever you and see how many people are sitting there staring at thier phones rather than talking to each other. Social meda and the need to post about everything your doing and what everyone else is doing is the newest disease on society.

And for those who are about to reply with "but hurr durrr ocuk is social media" you dont have a constant update of what your doing or where youve been etc. Ocuk is something i read whilst having a good old turd

Ah yes, the photo hipsters are certainly annoying when fine dining. Even worse are the poor people who are sitting in first class for the first time.
.

And I think Instagram is great for following photographers and any other hobby you are interested in. It's kinda what got me taking more pictures and buying a proper camera to do so. Just kept thinking, that's a great picture, I think I can try and do something similar.

I've got a friend that for his final university year he done a study on social media stereotypes, made an account on insta pretending to be a 40 year old mum some how racked up a fair few hundred follows across his final year posting stereotypical photos captions and hashtags. Was quite amazing really to watch it grow.

That's because you don't have it. I used to feel similarly, but for example, one of my friends doesn't have Facebook, but his gf has Instagram and it was awesome for me to go on her Instagram and see what he's been up to. Because it's purely photos, and there's not really much text, not too political etc, it's nice just to scroll through and see what people are up to. Facebook has become too cumbersome.

That's why I gave up on FB. I'm not really interested in stupid opinions and rubbish cat videos posted all the time.

People seem to make more effort to post nice family pics, scenery, action shots of sports and so on on IG.

I still don't use it much, but it's less clunky than FB. And frankly, my life is too busy to use social media - I am on my phone when I'm writing on the forum most of the time, as I do it between meetings or when I'm on the tube. I just don't have time to come on here or social media really.

I use Instagram for my travel photography slowly building a decent following I hope one day I can use it to give up work and travel around the world more then I do now like many of the top travel accounts on Instagram do.

Instagram can be a way of earning money through sponsorship once you get a decent following travel is my passion so I love looking at all the other pictures people post it a great community.

I quite like Instagram. I share my collection of antique weapons on there, along with interesting things I find online on the subject. I also help a lot of people identify heirlooms and the like. My account is becoming far more popular than I thought it would and I meet loads of people with specialised knowledge that I can ask things of. Instagram isn't all vacuous celebrities and fitness models, you just need to explore it.

I've started to use it as it is easy to share old photos and pictures of projects I'm working on with some people who spend less of their lives online than most funnily enough as a good number do have access to instagram on their phones.

I'm so sick of all the news articles that I may want to read sometimes, but not all the time. I don't see much personal stuff on Facebook any more, but then again I don't want to go to the effort of cleaning out my Facebook.

People definitely seem to be a bit more selective with IG, but at the same time post low key sort of stuff like you might get in a text. I like that.

I'm the same as Spuj, I have a Instagram account for my miniature painting. There's a massive knowledgeable GW community on there. Its brilliant for sharing your progress, helping other people by offering advice, or just for some well needed inspiration.

I think its great and my miniature painting feed has 0% people sharing their food.

+2. I'm on instragram for the toy soldiers and it's great.

@Spuj @Jonesiani What are your usernames?

People definitely posting a lot less personal stuff to FB these days - I've got it setup to filter out most of the **** and/or blocked quite a bit of content and there is probably about 1/3rd the amount of personal stuff these days (not due to stuff being blocked) compared to a few years back.

Except that is when I have a long work shift on a sunny afternoon/evening when everyone comes out of the woodwork to post pictures of themselves enjoying a leisurely pint or on the beach :s
