Given that if it was released in 2010 it would have been released as a GTX460 factoring in inflation and the increased R&D and development costs £305.50 for a "reference" card, allowing for the fact the VRAM is a bit higher end and larger amount than a card in that tier add about £25-30 onto that.

Paid £470 back in September for my 1080 fe, so not really unreasonable for mid 300's now

I bought a 1080 strix for about 400 this week. I really never intended on splashing out so much for a card for my GFs PC but nowhere had cheap 1070s and since I have a 1080 in my main PC I figured I could SLI them in future if I buy a next gen card.

The GTX 460 was up to £180 on release in 2010.
Let's add 25% for £:$ parity these days. That's £225.
Inflation has been historically low for the last few years, but let's be generous and add £25.
If we're feeling super generous add £50 for the increased R&D and new processes being super expensive.
That leaves the 1080 as a £300 card - max. And that's my answer to the OP. No more than £300.
1080 and 1080ti's haven't actually gone up in price at all. Some shops are milking them price wise but if you look around they are still the same price they were before the mining craze restarted. Unfortunately with no competition Nvidia can charge these stupid prices, and people PAY it, so why lower it?
This, 1080 at £449 is the lowest we have ever sold a 1080 for.
The lowest we hit on a 1080Ti was £599 on the KFA blower, those are gone now and our re-buy is higher due to memory price increase. We still have lots of good deals on 1080Ti and they remain to be incredibly strong seller shipping 100's per week so 1080Ti shows no signs of slow down but I think the recent mining boom has helped 1080Ti sales, because one the lesser cards are overpriced and second many have sold their Radeon cards for vast amounts of money and then used that money to buy a 1080 or 1080Ti. Our 1080 sales are the strongest they have being for a long time as when 1080Ti came out 1080 sales slumped massively but now 1080 is a very strong seller again, but so it should be as some 1070's cost more than some of the 1080 deals we have.
It was reported the 1080s werent affect by the mining craze though.They havent really gone down much in line with Nvidia's price cut in march though. It was cut to $499. Even supposing 1:1 comparison due to the state of the pound there are only maybe 1 or 2 at MOST gtx1080s under £500.
To be fair OCuks 1080s prices are more decent than the other 5 or 6 main e-tailers. Not as competitive as i want them to be but now is bad bad time to buy.
MSRP's are always for entry level cards, blower style, reference or basic entry point card.
The premium named and OC orientated cards always cost more. The crazy type deals only tend to happen as a card is reaching the end of its life cycle, Pascal (10 series) is still the current gen and there is nothing new coming in short term so they will hold their pricing solid until new cards come or AMD bring the fight to them.

When AMD bring the fight to them. Looking like RX Vega is going to be the perfectly placed around/under 1080 performance and, knowing the Red team, they will be priced relatively fairly for the consumer. I don't expect as big a market % shift as the Polaris launch had but I can bet there will be a lot of humming and hawing at purchase time among even the more hardcore FanVidia crowd. Not to mention Freesync.
Did you know you are the only one out of about 6 major computer component e-tailers who abides by that price cut (nvidia price cut on the founders/reference edition) The rest either don't have it or have kept it at high price above £500.

It's been mentioned before in other threads about b-grade stock. I don't have any first-hand experience of this myself, so can't say which do and which don't, sorry.
You have no choice though. If you want the performance you have to pay. You aren't going to get it huffing and puffing.
