Gender stereotypes to be banned in British adverts

this is terrible!!

without adverts constantly reinforcing the view that men are rubbish at household tasks we might start to be expected to do stuff now!

Thank **** I'll never be subjected to another ***** proctor and gamble advert about how mums are heroes and dads are vile scumbags who have no positive influence on their childrens' lives.

On the downside, I guess it means we'll now have to watch scantily clad men dancing around in hotpants explaining how amazing their new bikini area hair removal cream is... *Shudder*

I love the way you say

a change in attitude is long overdue. Equal should mean equal.

but in your OP you seem to be saying

This weekend the mrs will be cutting the grass and cleaning the car whilst I play with the kids all day. Then on Sunday, I'll cook the dinner and she can remove the understairs door and plaster the wall. Epic!

Will sure be a nice relaxing weekend for me.

That to swap roles means you will get a relaxing weekend just playing with kids while the Mrs will have to do "real work"

No stereotyping there then! :D

This is no great loss to advertisement and was getting pretty sick of the cliche bumbling bloke failing to do basic tasks or the try hard selfless mum always coming to the rescue.

At least we are through that god awful phase where almost every bank/insurer thought that advertisement should be a jingle/song with their business inserted as a pun.

Generally, the more restrictions companies have, the more creative and entertaining they make their adverts. Take a look at alcohol adverts where they have a crazy amount of restrictions, there are some cracking ones!

I'm quite interested to see how the gender landscape looks in 20 years time. I can't help but think that beyond all the BS about the 20 million genders they claim there are we will find out that actually men and women are quite different and much of the gender divide is simple because men and women like different things. I don't think men and woman fall into certain jobs or roles due to advertising or what we are told about being a man or woman. Perhaps one day we will be able to acknowledge that we are not the same and thats not a bad thing.

oooohhhh, no you can't say that playing with kids isn't 'real work'. Like I say, equal means equal. The following weekend we swap over again.

Except when it comes to parental/custody rights, mat pay etc? :p

Equal should mean equal. But quite often what is being asked for is 'Equal with caveats'.

Men do get full maternity pay don't they?

https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/pay

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) is paid for up to 39 weeks. You get:

  • 90% of your average weekly earnings (before tax) for the first 6 weeks
  • £140.98 or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is lower) for the next 33 weeks
SMP is paid in the same way as your wages (for example monthly or weekly). Tax and National Insurance will be deducted.

=======

Paternity Leave
You could get either 1 or 2 weeks. You get the same amount of leave if your partner has a multiple birth (such as twins).

You must take your leave in one go. A week is the same amount of days that you normally work in a week, for example if you only work on Mondays and Tuesdays a week is 2 days.

ok, I'm not great at maths. Does 39 equal 2?

This is not akin to babies being born without gender, this it a continuation of changes such as women being allowed to serve on the front lines. This has been a long time coming and isn't a surprise in the slightest.

So ideological driven nonsense then? Gotcha.

What people need to understand is that government, media and education is dominated by a clique of middle class metropolitan liberals. Given that they were all raised and educated with the same "progressive" values means we have a homogeneity of thought amongst those running our country. That these are often at odds with what the rest of us want is irrelevant since they hold all the cards. Cameron, Blair, Corbyn, Hall etc are all cut from the very same cloth.

Sometimes I think nothing short of a violent revolution will resolve the matter.

Sometimes I think nothing short of a violent revolution will resolve the matter.

Some are predicting one, maybe not a violent one. But if we carry on the way we are it's inevitable at some point. You only have to look at history to see that :/

We are one of the richest countries in the world, yet we now have working people needing to get food aid. People are getting angrier, where is the wealth going...
