I think you'll find the issue is the 1.0T is still relatively new in these so not long enough to assess any long term reliability. All the usuals apply though of making sure it's serviced at the correct interval etc.

But why..

As above - why not?

The latest Astra is meant to be fairly decent - certainly a step or two above the last few models.

Decent sized family hatchback (2 adults 2 kids)
2 yrs warrantly left
Good spec
Economical
Faster than the 1.4 (no turbo) astra that i tried last week

So much hate for Vauxhall - the new cars hey are producing are getting very very good reviews - including the new insignia line up - I remember my dads omega elite - loved that thing. Huge amount of car for the cash and a absolute work horse.

If it's got a warranty you shouldn't be too concerned with the turbo, just ensure you extend if for as long as you keep the car?

Why? Lots of cars have turbos, it's not the 80s - they don't all explode/fail on a regular basis. Even the need to cool down etc seems to still be over hyped - as long as they are serviced regularly and driven normally (I.e. not "thrashed" from cold but equally they don't need to be babied) there will be no more issues than any other engine.

Presumably so he can get from A to B with the guidance of navigation. He'll also use it to move things around, perhaps carry his family in. Cars are super handy like that!

my point was that in my opinion there are better cars to buy new. Which will probably loose less value over time too, not to say that vauxhall is crap but let's be honest here and agree that it'll loose more than say a golf or a ford.

also fords have been faffing around with 3cyl 1.0 turbos for years so they've got a better idea of what to do with them.

basically, I'd go ford/mazda/honda etc rather than vauxhall.

Like what? The new Astra is quite well rated, a Golf will be much more expensive and the Focus is a very dated car now.

on that monthly rate you'll find other cars.. tbf I'd rather an older golf or even a focus ;) mazda 3 for e.g. comes very well specced compared to many cars.
