Hot hatch recommendations - £20k

Hello motors

I'm looking to get into a hot hatch and have ~£20k to spend on this. My requirements are pretty standard:

5 door
Petrol
Manual (or good auto like the ZF 8 speed)
Not a VW group car (I've had 2 bad experiences with VW and 1 with Audi, never again)

All the standard hot hatch stuff (B roads, motorway, comfortable etc)

Excluding VW Group cars does miss out on Golf GTI/R, Leon Cupra etc, but I'm never buying another one after previous experiences.

Shortlist

BMW M135i - Fantastic package, but in my budget most are low spec
Ford Focus ST - Affordable, but not that fast
Mini Cooper S 5 door - Good spec levels, very affordable, not sure on space or looks

Advice, recomendations, anything I've missed etc?

tl;dr - Hot hatch, £20k, no VW group cars
 
£20k will get you a very well specced pre-LCI M135i. If you spend a little extra you should be able to get into an LCI M135i with decent spec.

For £22k I bought a 2015 M135i with 14k on the clock from BMW AUC. Factory options included the ZF 8 speed gearbox, professional media pack (pro nav), adaptive M suspension, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors plus a couple of other bits.

It's worth mentioning that the LCI model comes with a lot of good toys as standard; bluetooth audio streaming, business navigation, LED lights etc.

I just did a carwow for a Peugeot 308 GTI 270. Got a quote back for £20,135 with a paint option. List price is over £29k.
 
So everyone is mentioning M135i, but looking on BMW site for AUC I can barely find anything within price and spec, am I being dumb here?
