Can you use an Apple Pencil on devices other than an iPad Pro?

I have a Surface Pro 4, but I don't like the bundled stylus, so I'd like to be able to use an Apple Pencil instead. Is that possible, assuming I have a separate charger I can use to charge the battery?
 
ive moved from a surface pro 4 to the ipad pro 10.5"

only thing that I miss from the surface is full windows remote desktop. Have an app for most other stuff i need from a portable device. Note taking on it is excellent
 
The new surface pen is out now but is likely still a little behind the apple pen as their technology is ahead of even Wacom now I believe.

What do you mean full Windows remote desktop? What's wrong with the iPad remote desktop app? Or do you mean remoting onto the Surface?

I was dead set on an iPad at first, but I'm looking for a laptop replacement and the iPad Pro just isn't that (unless you only use it for basic word processing, emails, etc). In my case I need a good stats visualisation software (e.g., SPSS) and they're not on iOS.

I'm waiting for the 2017 Macbooks (non Pro) to come into the refurbished store. Not quite as light as an iPad Pro + Keyboard, but very close.

They look like really nice machines. I would have been in the market for one of them too, but I need a screen I can write on (hence why I ended up going for a Surface Pro). I do still rate Apple highly. Absolutely loved my 2013 Pro. Has been a great workhorse.

Ah gotcha. iPad + laptop = too much dosh? I love the integration between Macs and iPhone/iPad, works so well. I agree I would be pretty reluctant to go iPad-only. There are just too many things I would feel limited to.

Too much dosh and the inconvenience of having to take two devices with me for work (I would need both for work, whereas the SP4 is one device that can do everything I need, even if it can't do some things as well as an iPad/Macbook).

That's why I went with the surface book as well, I'm pretty excited to see what MS do with the surface line as it's relatively new compared to other offerings and already does a lot right.
 
I'm really happy to hear this; I want Microsoft to succeed. I'm continually surprised at how many Surfaces I see in meetings and on trains, so the Surface without a doubt fills a very important need.
 
We've moved on from things such as SAS and SPSS nearly everything cloud based now. Plus the guys who know that stuff were costing me £800 a day.

The weight and fan noise got me with the surface pro. I will admit the ipad is not a workstation replacement i still prefer to use a desktop with large screens but the iPad suits my portable needs.
