Long story short -

I bought genuine parts for my car which are covered by a 12 month parts & labour warranty.

Part developed fault after about 3 weeks.

Local dealer attempted to fix issue but broke the new part fitting it, had a second attempt but then told me it was the wrong part and just today admitted it was the correct part but was 3x the price I paid so they declined to fit it.

Meanwhile I am driving a car with a severely knackered control arm that won't pass an MOT, pulls to one side pretty bad under heavy braking & is knocking it's **** off.

Apparently the part is now on back order and they don't know how long it will be yet I have a 900 mile trip to do next weekend in this thing.

Who do I whinge at?

The dealer, the original retailer (who can't fit the parts) or the manufacturer?

why would you whinge at the people you bought the part from?

The dealer fitting it broke it, you supplied them a part and paid them to fit it.
They damaged/broke it, they will haev insurance they need to replace it in my eyes.

the dealer who fitted it broke the parts, at the very least i'd expect them to source the parts themselves, or refund you the exact amount and let you re-supply them.

although a dealer who managed to break parts on fitting isn't one i'd be returning to in a hurry....

Because the Consumer Rights Act 2015 tells me to, the car is still running on the part they supplied as the local dealer re-fitted it after removing it.

However I feel that this is the dealers fault for breaking the only part they have in stock, they claim they are struggling to get another but why is that my problem?

The warranty is with the manufacturer who directed me to the dealer.

You're probably going to have to tell us the long story tbh because the short story doesn't really make a lot of sense?

Thought that might be the case, here goes -

I bought an ST220 back in Feb, I gave it a suspension overhaul using genuine Ford parts supplied from Ford Parts UK, all of which have a 12+ month manufacturers warranty against defects, this includes the labour cost of replacement.

The control arms on MK3 Mondeos have fluid filled hydraulic rear bushes & the ST220 has slightly different arms from the rest of the range. About 3 weeks later I decided to fit new calipers, discs & pads & when I put the car back on the ground the rear bush burst spraying oil all-over the floor.

I took it to a local dealer who agreed it was knackered and agreed to replace it under the parts warranty, they ordered a replacement part & booked me in 2 weeks later.

2 weeks later I drop the car off at 8am with an agreement to pick it up at 5:30pm that day, I take their courtesy car & drive to work, I then get a phone call at around 3-4pm saying they tried to fit the new part but they managed to rupture the rear bush on the new part fitting it so they have had to order another which should be there the following day, so I agree to pick it up a day later.

Pretty much 24 hours later I get another phone call saying they have stripped the car down again & when fitting the new part they have discovered the part is different so they can't fit it, I need to come get my car & they will have the new part on Monday.

2 more weeks pass and I am now chasing them up for a progress report, they tell me that the part is on back order & the guy that answered the phone & looked at the notes says "I can see we didn't fit the part last time as when it arrived the part cost was 3 times more than was on your receipt so we sent it back", we are currently waiting for the correct part.

Meanwhile I am running around in a car that won't go in a straight line, it needs sorting ASAP.

yes it does not make sense - maybe you reply just now clarifies it ..

you bought parts and gave them to a dealer to install ? if so retailer would cover parts, and garage might guarantee repair if they agreed parts were good/genuine.
if you had requested dealer purchases and installs parts, responsibility would be much clearer, to resolve any later problems

Local dealer attempted to fix issue but broke the new part fitting it
who bought these parts ? you or the garage.
but was 3x the price I paid so they declined to fit it.
you mean you told them not to install it because it was 3x too expensive ?

.... sounds like you need to establish if the parts were faulty (and return them yourself, if you purchased them) and get dealer to give you a letter confirm parts were faulty,
or see whether dealer used incorrect prcocess when trying to install them, and would then be responsible for the part replacement and re-work.

No. The dealer refused to replace the parts as the price had tripled since i bought them.

And the dealer had already established they were faulty, that is in writing.

If i refit them myself i have to get the subframe re-aligned ans pay for another 4 wheel alignment.

OK - ring ford parts UK yourself and tell them to pull their finger out, and get the correct parts to the dealer asap,
maybe suggest they should tell dealer to provide a loaner in the interim if the car is unsafe and you need to make a long trip
