Hi all

I am speccing my mum a new Tiguan on some of these carwow type websites

I am unsure whether paying extra for Discover Nav Pro is worth the extra - I can see it gives a larger nicer screen and also allows you to display Nav on both the instruments in the cockpit and on the main screen

Is it necessary to have as it is not a cheap option and she will likely be using Google Maps Android Auto thingy anyway?

Cannot comment on the options VW give, however I have been fitting the Kenwood systems in the Transporters lately and even VW Dealers are fitting them in T6 Sportlines instead of the other options

So they are fitting aftermarket head units? lol

Aftermarket yes, however the headunits going in can only be supplied by van centre or if you have an account with TPS. They even have a VW part number. Im sure you can spec it with the kenwood when ordering IIRC

EDIT - I cannot comment on the car side of things however

Yeah definitely not an option for cars - must be commercial only

Doesn't pro also have gesture control?

I think I'd opt for pro.
Yeah but my mum is 51 and I can't see her using gesture control - she struggles with a lot of things on her phone!

With leather being £1500 and power tailgate £300 over the SEL price I'm just wondering whether it is worth it as budget is reasonably tight

You don't need the Pro Nav to get the map on the active instrument cluster, the limitation of the standard system is that is only has enough processing power to display it on one at a time.

The Pro system does add a data connection (Guide and inform) for online weather/search/traffic info. The traffic info is very good as it seems to get the data from Google, I think it also supports send to car from Google maps but not 100% certain.

Pro System also supports full 3D maps.

Hm ok
I think we will leave it probably as I will get her to use android auto google maps

So she struggles using her phone but you're going to get her to faff about connecting her phone for android auto every time she uses her car rather than just using the standard nav?

Well she will rarely use the nav anyway apart from on a long ish journey as it will be a city car and she struggles but she isn't bad enough to not be able to plug the phone in and open an app :p

Its not even that on Android Auto. Mine is just plug it in the head unit fires up AA and you can select NAV/MUSIC etc. Its fairly simple to use and the voice commands are great.
