A discussion started at work today when one of my co-workers asked if anyone feeds seagulls, and to my surprise a few people admitted that they do! I thought that the default stance was to hate seagulls and that most people considered them to be vermin, as I do...

They are loud, violent, and they spread muck and disease. I genuinely can't see any reason to like them.

Poll?

What say you?

Winged rats I say - hate them because they never seem to learn and can hold grudges.

The other night was on break with a few people from work and someone (nothing to do with us) was shooting at them (probably illegally) with a .22 - which got a cheer from several people.

The place where I work is close to a tip so there are seagulls all over the place. They **** on my car every single day. If I see one in the road I'll aim for it now. Haven't managed to get one yet though! :p

I just found this in a news article which is interesting.

"Conwy Council was also forced to shelve plans to punish people for feeding seagulls as it might conflict with certain religious beliefs."

5 points to who can tell me what religion promotes the right to feed seagulls.

I dunno this was on the grounds of an estate but not sure if they were just taking the law into their own hands or licensed and down the road from there where my dad works they've got permission to use pest control to remove any nests/eggs from their roof space and kill any nuisance seaguls if necessary - though usually having some falcons or similar birds of prey out on perches seems to do the job for awhile before they come back - they are turning into a proper nuisance around here.

Meh not bothered by them, I don't feed them or anything but then where I live there aren't any seagulls around. Ravens on the other hand are the devils spawn.

I was indifferent to them until recently. I parked my car in the usual spot for the gym, and proceed to be dive bombed by one that was convinced i was a threat to its young. I was only walking to the gym, but that walk turned into a nervous run whilst it chased me. The gull was easily quicker than me too so i had to seek refuge in the archway of a shopfront. Not my manliest moment.

I find them really annoying, but quite funny at times too. i kicked at one to make it fly away once when on the beach. i watched it fly off, do a circle, fly over me, a second later I'd been pooped on. Little vindictive git! I'm sure it was the same one!

On the flip side when sitting by the water where the fishing boats harbour in Weymouth, drunkenly watching one dive bomb a woman trying to pinch chips off her plate was highly amusing, until one nicked my missus' butter. :p

Is it me?
It's me, isn't it!!
Do I win the points?

Not a fan of seaguls, but not in regular contact with any, especially since our local civic amenity (ie The Tip) is now a covered establishment.
However, it is quite hilarious to go on holiday to Looe and watch people, who know full well what seagulls are like, still get all flustered when the gulls snatch their ice-creams!!
