Girl, 5, fined £150 for lemonade stand

Similar thing happened to my son at his school a week or so ago.

He's taken a passion to writing stories, some of his friends asked him to write them a story and gave him 50p each to write a book, someone grassed on him and he got told he shouldn't take peoples money and was made to give it back.

They didn't praise him on the creativity of writing books either.

Several years ago he would be heralded and praised for his entrepreneurial spirit, now you just get told "No, you can't do that."

jesus that's stupid.

they do realise they could have just put a massive downer on a kids dreams to become a writer?

JESUS CHRIST! This offends me to no end. On what basis did they tell him he had to give the money back? What possible rationale? Did they think he was conning them somehow? Are they against capitalism or something?

He was told he cannot bribe people, even though they willingly gave him the money, he did not beg for it, his friends said they would pay him. He was very upset that day and came home in a foul mood.

:(

I told him to ignore them, and carry on writing.

In the space of 2 days he had writtend and done illustrations for 4 books in his series. His friends loved them.

The school's behaviour is awful. What did you say to him? I imagine it can be quite confusing telling a young child that the authority figures are wrong. Have you talked with the teacher who did this at all, out of interest?

I just told him to ignore them on this occasion as they were wrong, and that it shouldn't put him off from doing any writing.

We didn't speak to the school.

If nobody tells them it's stupid they will carry on doing it. Sometimes people need to stand up and provide opposition - you don't have to be confrontational. I find that the worst people in my life are those that have not had any opposition and their behaviour has become more and more entrenched.
