No casualties reported. Earthquakes happen, yes it's scary if you're not used to them, but the event in itself is not uncommon.

Currently holidaying in Kos Town on the Greek island of Kos and a 6.7 quake just hit Bodrum, Turkey which is 4km away.

We were in bed and awoken by an almighty shaking, the bed being flung from side to side. The initial quake lasted about 10 seconds and then the 1st aftershock kicked in about 30 seconds later.

Gf was screaming in fear initially until I calmed her down, some of the other hotel guests were also crying out in panic. Luckily we were only on the 1St floor so were outside within about a minute.

There was a crack in the staircase wall as we went down the stairs, lots of broken windows and objects strewn across the floor. There was lots of dust in the air and alarms going off.

We're currently outside, the seafront is right outside the hotel so we're away from the buildings (call me paranoid but I checked the sea level when we got to the beach) and just waiting for the all clear to go back inside.

I've never experienced anything more than a slight tremor before and it was quite violent, it reminded me of being flung around on a roller-coaster, the same side to side motion.

Quite an unsettling experience!

2 dead and 'many more' injured :(

Been outside for 3 hours now but it's understandable them not letting us back in, they have to make sure it is safe.

Thanks Craig, we've spent the night outside on the grass under a blanket, it's dawn now so hopefully some organisation should take place when it's fully light.

Thanks folks for your kind words. I feel really sorry for the 2 that died, wrong place wrong time :(

It's amazing how quickly the locals have got things up and running to nearly-normal so quickly. The island still has no mains water but we had a meal at a restaurant today and everything was business as usual except no electronic bill or ice in our water.

The only obvious difference at lunchtime was the church opposite us now has its tower lying in ruins on the floor. I have some before and after shots which I'll post once I find a decent WiFi connection.

Glad youre all OK, that was a strong earthquake. Kos experiences quakes like the one you experienced not so often, such powerful quakes occured again in 1933, 1493, 556 and 449 AD...
