Mercedes E-Class Coupe or Audi S5?

Nothing serious about anything you post. If its any car and nothing matters in terms of economy, performance, utility, whatever, just buy whatever - literally doesnt matter.

They are both expensive rep mobiles, the S5 isn't a 911. It's an Audi A5 with a powerful engine. Similarly powerful E Class Coupes are available.

It's a car from the class below the E class that partially makes up for it with a better engine.

If this is really true then get a better E Class instead. It's simply a better car than an A5, which is aimed at the C class coupe not the E class.

Though if it is just driveway bling you want, hence not being bothered about the engine, a 2.0T S Line A5 is considerably cheaper I would imagine and fundamentally the same thing anyway.

Driveway bling :D

That they are. Neither is going to turn the head of car enthusiasts.

You just missed ridiculous deals on the S5, quite literally a month or 2 too late.

They're both autos so I don't know how much fun they would be to drive. Only had 1 auto and that was an Auris which was fun off the start due to electric go kart-like properties.

If it's down to looks, try a C class and try a manual. Mercs dont do good boxes, but at least its a stick.
Also new A5/S5 style and shape is horrific. The change is really subtle, but the effect is massive. They've well and truly hosed all over what was a great looking car.

At least you've bypassed the usual motors ridiculous suggestions and comparisons and gone straight for it in the OP!

The new A5 looks like ass compared to the E class coupe. The 4 pot diesel will be terrible compared to the turbocharged 6. Basically neither will be the final word in driving pleasure, but the S5 will be better for the traffic light GP (which is why you buy a S5 isn't it?).

Save the £64 a month and get the E class. Otherwise as Fox says save even more cash and lease a 4 pot A5 and put the S line black sport bling black pack on it.

Any car......obviosuly within budget :p Seriously - trolls going to troll

I get it. Sometimes you are restricted simply by budget. Which often means compromising something for something else. In this case, your compromising the "class" of a vehicle for the engine. Neither of which are deal breakers for you (when I was looking to change my F11, I was restricted only by budget, so whilst I did look at RS3's, Discoverys were also in budget, and there was a cracking lease deal on an S8, as well as DB9's coming into budget. None of these cars were remotely similar, but they were all in budget. In the end, I went another direction altogether with the Edition 30, which is seemingly the worst offence on here ever, even more so than considering different cars in the first place). I get it, whilst most on here are happy to take the mick because they dont. For some reason they think you want a specific car type and thats that. And heaven forbid if you should want to change what type of car you have from the likes of an estate to a coupe, without what THEY regard as a legitimate reason, for which budget alone obviously isn't legitimate enough.

For me, I'd go S5 out of the two. Simply for the engine. And I don't really like Mercedes anyway.

If you want it for the engine save money and get the S4 instead, which has the same engine. Or even an RS4. Better looking and better ride anyway.

From what I've seen of Drayton Stoke and Mercedes Benz South West (Taunton) 's handling of my dad and his C180 Kompressor over the years (S Class courtesy car, flowers delivered when he mentioned in passing he'd got prostrate cancer, car practically detailed after every service / visit etc ) Mercedes seem to have customer service nailed.

He was so impressed with them that he's ended up cancelling the 1 series he was buying for my mum and has bought an A180 from MB South West, they've bent over backwards to accommodate him even offering to deliver it free of charge to Staffordshire!

Audi and indeed BMW should take note.

I agree they should! That sounds like great service. Hope the chap has recovered as well.

Sdk, you not gonna miss the speed when you switch from the golf?

Exactly - With no specific requirement other than budget i've looked at Volvo V90 / XC90 & 60, Audi Q7/Q5, A5/A4 & TT, Mercedes E & C Estate, Coupe & SUV and narrowed it down to the two above.

I think only the OcUK Motors forum community states you must select a car category and range and not deviate.

:D

It's not just the category you mustn't deviate from though. You aren't allowed to deviate from your initial budget either. Heaven forbid you actually spend less than your initial budget on a car from a different category.

Well let's be honest here..motors is a very special bunch. One mistake in your post and you'll be ripped apart and remembered for years to come ;) next time state it all in OP and make sure you get proof read by a few people just so it all makes sense. I often shop like that.. but out of those I'd rather the s5, simply because I can't see my self in something as dull engine wise as that eclass. But if you don't care about that then the eclass is a better cat to sit in for sure, they've done very well with the design of the interior and the quality. Audi is still a bit too German and too serious. But then again, I'd be in a lexus for that budget. What are the costs for rcf/gsf etc?

I think that's just you as people find it amusing how you have to keep telling everyone, usually using a 9 paragraph essay, that you considered an Aston Martin DB9 all the time when talking about your Mk5 Golf.

The concept that you might end up spending less than you planned is probably well understood on here yet rarely is it quite as stark as the choice you made :p

I mentioned maybe once or twice that I had considered one, actually looked at one. But it was continually brought up ever since, but I have tried to stop rising to the bait so much recently :D. And then the latest, was that I merely mentioned that for the same money as my F11, F360's were available. That was immediately jumped on like I had even considered them, when I clearly hadn't, they were simply the same price at that time. Of course, now there are posts like "I got a Corsa, considered Ferarri", which are clear in what was meant.

I get that it was quite a difference though going from considering DB9's to getting a Golf GTI. But the reasoning was sound enough to me, getting a car I always wanted since its release, rather than a car I'd only thought about being affordable for a few months. Anyway, it was all a laugh, but it's getting old now. For me at least. I realise on a forum like this, many people might not get out a lot, so laughing at people on the internet might be their thing.

Back on topic though. Like I said, I'd pick the engine first, so would go S5. But that is a similar monthly figure to that of the S8's I was looking at last year on a cheap lease. Wouldn't be as fun to drive on the twisties though.
