Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

If you watched us play today you would realise we are completely screwed without him. Our squad looks weaker and weaker each year.
It's pre-season for crying out loud. Players come and go all the time and clubs don't fall apart. Of course you're better with him but you've lost better players and replaced them.

On the general point of whether to sell him and if so, for how much. There's no right answer - lose him now and be worse off in the short term or let him go next summer, get nothing for him and have no control of where he goes. The one thing you don't do (unless they offer stupid money) is sell him to City - either keep him or sell him to PSG/Bayern.

The bigger issue here isn't Sanchez but how Arsenal keep finding themselves in a position where their best players are running down their contracts and leaving Arsenal in a no win situation. This should have been resolved 12 months ago and if there was no sign of him committing to a new deal then he should have been sold there and then or at the very least began the process of identifying and signing his replacement so they weren't left shafted now.

Well said Baz, agree with pretty much everything you said above.

I guess players like Sanchez and Ozil are or have been waiting to see what our ambitions are, which let's be honest is sweet FA in regards to PL titles and CL titles.
So they just run their contracts down then wait on Wenger and the board to run around like headless chickens trying to get them to sign new contracts.

The good thing about keeping him is that you know that because it's a world cup year he's unlikely to throw a hissy fit and intentionally play badly for fear of costing himself a place in Chile's team. The danger of keeping him is that he is then free to choose where he goes next year and could go to another team in the PL. It's a tough one, he could conceivably help Arsenal finish in the CL positions this coming season and possibly win a trophy, which all means good money coming in, but then you risk him going to a PL team next summer and who knows how much damage he could do to Arsenal at somewhere like City or Chelsea; or you accept an offer this year from a foreign team, knowing that he can't then have an influence for a rival team, but you lose a season from your best player. I think I'd push PSG to pay a bit more and then accept a higher offer.

Regarding Sanchez, the irony is it's probably BECAUSE of him we finished out side of the champions League spots.

Yes yes.... I can hear you saying WHAT??! But.... it was the teams poor form in the two legs against Bayern that made Sanchez throw the toys out the pram. This then had a massive knock on effect on the team and we went on a losing run that cost us that 1 point and a Champions League spot.

Personally as much as I want to keep him, having a toxic player in the camp it's better to get rid of them than have that negativity around the club and the other players.

Sell him to PSG hopefully for a good price just make sure to spend the money on a good player to replace him.

How can they rate Sanchez at 35m but lukaku at 75m?
length of existing contract - wasn't Lukaku 's a year longer?

Either way 35m selling to a team not a direct competitor vs at least double that if he is sold within the same league

Age is also a significant factor against Sanchez - of course the latter is still good for two or three years depending on injury (his speed / acceleration may decrease rapidly post 30, at the very least its a ?) - Lukaku is only 24 and just reaching his prime

So City have spent like, what, £130m on full backs now?!

The worrying factor is that despite their weaknesses in the last two seasons they still finished above Utd, they are still spending more than us and strengthening more positions

They may be overpaying for "average" players, but if they finish above Utd again, will the powers at be (at City) care? Obviously they are chasing titles, and if they don't then that's a consideration, but its still one less position in the top four less likely that utd will get.

Its an admirable trait not to pay the huge numbers all clubs are insisting on - but at what point do you HAVE to say "whats the point in holding out"? 5m? 10m difference? Whats the difference on a turnover of 500m , very very little at the end of the day.

Of course its not just about one transfer - its about all that summer, all the next summer and the summer after etc, but there is also a huge value in getting the targets in early for pre-season which is not easily quantifiable. Look at Pogba last season, he took an arguable 2 months to get up to speed and arguably didn't play at that same level consistently for the last 2 - 3 months of the season. This also might have something to do with the euros last summer admittedly but missing pre-season because of the bargaining didn't help either.

(just because a player comes in, doesn't mean the move works out of course - but its still a worrying trend. Especially when Utd have strengthened only in CB position, and replaced like for like in the only other deal to get across the line so far. Matic may well arrive , but not sure this is the most inspiring move ever made even if it potentially frees up Pogba to be more offensive).

Interesting, Jose has come out and stated that DDG is not leaving this season 100%. Great news to get it confirmed.

Lukaku is not even close to his prime. Very rarely will a player hit his prime at 24.

Yea...never heard of them to be honest and i wont believe a thing until Pearce or Joyce say something. Would be good to get this one over the line though.
James peace has now said same thing structure deal worth 83m.

Not sure how often he is right either.

Edit: ignore that just noticed it's a fake Pearce account

Most players won't have played the number of games he has at 24. That will determine his prime more than his age. I don't think he's going to significantly improve and his prime won't be the typical 29ish.

FWIW I think he'll score a lot of goals and is a good signing.

he hasn't hit his physical prime? have you seen the size of the lad?!

edit: oh didn't realise City bought another full back as back up in Danilo. Isn't he the guy that got completely shut out of the Madrid side by Carvajal very quickly?

Agreed I would let Sanchez go and reinvest the money but ideally wouldn't sell him to prem club but we all know the player has the power in todays game, Similar to when Van Persie left he wouldn't go anywhere but Man U.

According to winner sports(who?) on twitter they have accepted our last bid for Keita 83m euros so roughly 74m in our currency

Winner sports are a total BS site, so it's probably attention seeking fake news.

Hope I'm wrong as I'd love keita to sign. Just the sort of player we need.

74m is utterly crazy though :(
