I've been debating about turning to the dark side and trading in my x351 XJ. The 640d Gran Coupe has caught my eye as I think they look fantastic. I'll be looking at 2015 cars as I think they get the Euro6 engines and I'm test driving an M sport with M sport plus.

Not knowing anything about BMWs as I've never been interested about them before, are there any must have options that I should be looking for? There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on what is and what's not standard equipment.

Thanks

I like mine. Has adaptive suspension which really helps the ride quality so I'd certainly recommend that. Quite partial to the HUD too.

Everything you need is standard. The options are nice to have but unlike a 5 series there isn't anything that's a glaring omission from the standard spec.

Thanks for the info. Do they come with heated windscreens and heated steering wheels?

To add to that, screen isn't really needed, not had any issues with mine clearing swiftly. It has a quick clear option.

Amazing cars.

Get one with the updated nav which most 2015 cars are

M sport plus pack at a minimum.
Sarround view is useful.
Nice to have are the comfort seats and nappa leather.
VDC is also worth having but it's hard to fine one.

M Sport plus pack is hardly a minimum requirement just nice to have.

Updated nav is not present on any 2015 cars unless you mean NBT instead of CIC which is circa 2013 onwards.

I would say a reversing camera is more than a nice to have for a car of that size and because of the view out the rear windscreen

My view it's more than nice to have. At least the HUD is a minimum requirement.

Re the Nav I was referring to the MBT. I found some 14 cars had it and some did not. Most 2015 cars do.

I noticed that when I was looking. It's a question of manufacturing vs registration dates. Mine doesn't have it despite being a 2013 car, was manufactured and registered before it was fitted.

March 13 production onwards is NBT in the 6 Series Coupe and Convertible - so the late registered ones with CIC should all have been gone by the end of 2013.

The HUD is very cool but I can't see how it can be described as essential. It just isn't.
Horses for courses.
I disagree with you here though. My constant banging on about comfort seats aside, HUD really is a must on a 640d. It's a high-end luxury car and I'd be disappointed with a boggo spec. Furthermore, HUD is excellent.
Have you got one?

Personally I wanted the M sport plus for the HK sound system upgrade but the HUD is a nice bonus. Does anyone pay and maintain the subscription to use the connected services like the concierge etc.?

How are you getting on without your HUD?

'boggo spec' on a 2015 640d is absolutely loaded. It even has upgraded audio as standard. It is truely a car where you simply need pick condition and colour you fancy and the spec - which it will have as I've never seen one without a single option - is purely a bonus.

Furthermore, HUD is excellent.

No, but I am very familiar it with as my Dad has had it on every F11 he's had. It's absolutely brilliant - I am not denying this - but it's purely an enhancement and isn't a 'must have'.

Real Time Traffic Information is £50 a year. If you take one item, such as RTTI, you get Connected Services etc etc bundled in for free. Concierge is £120 a year and is not IMHO worth paying a penny for.
