Spec my friend a 4x4

He has been warned. This is definitely a *grabs popcorn* moment. If anything hilarious happens I will update you :D

Well a Toyota Land Cruiser is the most rugged and the one that can be used anywhere without fear. But as you say I have no idea if you can get one worth having for 15K 2nd hand and if simply buying a 4x4 estate car would be the best solution.

I would love a SC Range Rover. I just cant justify the money for a new one, or hold the bravery for an older one. So well played for him. A friend of mine once had a £12k engine rebuild bill for a diesel Range Rover Sport. Luckily it was covered under warranty, but that was enough to put me off a RR without warranty.

An old Hilux is just as tough.

Also the pickup version can fit many types of weapons on the back with ease.

Hope he got a good warranty. I bought my car from the same place as the guy in this video and they even gave me a new pair of tyres on the warranty. I was going to get an E60 M5 from them too as the warranty would have been less than $7k for a 6yr warranty but they've stopped selling them now

7K for just a warranty ......Is someone having a laugh

No surprise that most old RRs are total sheds lol

Can't afford the extended warranty, can't afford the parts. Soon as people sense a problem they get rid of them asap and sell it to some mug.

That the problem,

Surely anyone who can afford and is willing to pay 7K just for a warranty is not going be looking at buying a 10 year old range rover

To be fair, that $7k was in dollars. And that wasn't for a a Range Rover, as stated above. But even if it was, $7k for 6 years / 100k on an old Range Rover is pretty likely to pay for itself, as that video showed.

If I could get such a warranty, on such a car here, I would pay for it, as I would love one of those Range Rovers. I'm just too terrified of the bills. As shown in that video.

I'm not sure how normal that would be. But I doubt it would be overly unexpected. Driving a Range Rover is a liability. Knowing that before you go in should be mandatory. None the less, I LOVED driving both mine, and would have another if I could stomach the liability, or could get a decent warranty.

WOW I just watched that video

Is that amount of faults and getting the same faults over & over normal with range rovers ?

Yep. They will keep kicking up massive bills.

The only thing that seems to be well constructed on them is the bodywork. Which is pretty poor considering how much they cost. It's basic stuff that keeps breaking as well, things that just don't break on other cars. Like folding mirrors and the horn as seen in that video (when have you EVER had to replace a horn? lol).

Mate of mine is looking at an RR Sport at around an 09 plate, ~100k, he seems to think LPG is the way to avoid bankruptcy but I can't get through to him that frankly (imo) the mpg costs will be the least of his worries with it.

His other half currently used their Scooby Impreza as a daily (he's a plumber with a van) and he's "getting fed up of dropping £70 /week on fuel for it"

Think I'll just give up and let him learn the hard way...

A Scoobie might use more fuel, but it will probably work out cheaper in the long run lol

I know someone who used to run an LPG LAND Rover and that wasn't as bad, but it did have problems. There are some other V8s which covert to LPG well and are pretty reliable. Like old Lexuses.

£15K would get you an 80 and allow a budget for doing the work that would be needed to be done to get it up to scratch and have some left over.

For that you would get something that would be mechanically simple compared to more modern vehicles, Totally bomb proof, and utterly reliable, and would likely hold its value surprisingly well.

Brilliant. I had a Range Rover running LPG. I was getting 13 mpg on LPG, so cost equivalent of ~25 mpg. Not exactly an efficient option. Still, better than the 17 mpg I got out my non-LPG one.
