It doesn't say 'refurb' anywhere, so I guess it can't be one.

Apple have done really, I've just gone along for the ride.

They'll likely just replace the battery as it'll be in stock and do able in store!

I already did.. (and got a 2017 with Touchbar) but OldCoals has an MBA and the supply issue is with the top case for the MBP

MBA battery is user replaceable - around £40.

Replaced the one in my youngest's 2011 version a few months back.

I have a external GTX970 in a modified TB2 enclosure that I use on my Mac mini and did use on my 2012 MBPr. It worked really well the system booted ok with it attached. OS X was always fine but Windows had a bit of a reboot dance to perform sometimes.
Hoping that now TB3 has actual support for GPUs it'll be more reliable all round

Yep, way under 1000 cycles and way less than 80%.
