Hi Guys

I am taking the Gf to Barcelona next month for her 30th

Looking for recommendations for decent places to eat at during the day and more importantly the evening

Is there anything special about this city to do or see? I havn't been to Barcelona before tbh

Thanks

Did you pick it out of a hat? You booked somewhere with no clue at all
? :P

I'd start on TripAdvisor top ten tourism things then ask for cliché advice here in 1h.

Park guel, the beach, square off la ramblas, the palace. Best thing to do is tour about on the city busses (red, green and blue route) and get off where you fancy.

We have been plenty of times and its one of the places we would like to either live for a while or have a holiday home.

Pretty much this. I never get these threads.

Camp Nou, she will love it and with a bit of luck the season in Spain may have started so you could treat her more to go watch the match :D;)

Sagrada Familia is the obvious sight to see. Book in advance though as it gets busy and the ticket queues get long!

I didn't like Ramblas, like some British seaside high street plonked in Spain with rip off food.

a few friends have been and said its a good place to go so i booked it

i book around 3-4 random holidays a year and just find things out for myself but as its her birthday wanted to go to somewhere nice

I'd take the bus. No, really, get on the east bound bus one day, the west bound bus the next and get off and walk around the good bits.

Quimet y Quimet, not far from the harbour, near Tambo Mango hostel, on Carrer del Poeta Cabanyes is an excellent tapas bar.
Try the zamburiñas, (small scallops), pickled pheasant, or the Granada sturgeon.

It's well worth doing a full lap on the open top busses, just to see all the artworks on the outskirts. As advised, pre book for SF or be prepared to queue for over an hour. Make sure you go into the undercroft, it's easy to miss it but there is plenty more to see. Gaudi's park is worth a visit although what you can see for free was enough in my opinion.

Take the cable car to the marina, great views on the way down.

I'd echo the city bus recommendations. We bought a two day ticket and travelled both red and blue lines, getting off where we felt like.

Most of the obvious recommendations for sight seeing have already been made and are great. I'd add:

  • La Pedrera, particularly the roof, which is a wonderful Gaudi building
  • Casa Batllo, which is a Gaudi designed former merchant's home you can see all of
  • The fountains at night at Mont Juic, which are lit up a bit like the Bellagio fountains in Vegas
  • The El Borne district has far less touristy shops and restaurants. It's where the students hang out and isn't just endless Zaras and Desiguals
  • The Gothic quarter is touristy but full of interesting history
If you haven't booked somewhere to stay then I can recommend this place:

Fantastic regional cuisine (albeit not a huge variety) and a really cool roof terrace. Spent many nights up there with the Mrs drinking and overlooking the city.

I'm just back from there , was a short stay but every 2 mins no matter where we were, we were offered every drug imaginable, even bouncers were offering it to us going into pubs/clubs and bringing them down to the table to people.

Prostitutes everywhere in Las Ramblas but as you're with herself then prob won't be bothered too much.

Definitely recommend checking Nou Camp out, the non footballing guys/girls that were with us were shocked how much they enjoyed it.

The cathedral is unbelievable too, we hopped on the bus and was dropped right at it.

I wouldn't ever buy drugs abroad, never know what your getting, even with weed wouldn't trust it

Awesome city to visit. Been twice and loved it.
How long you going for?

If you like bars/pubs visit the one with the forest inside. (Let me check the name)

If you're going for 3 days +then a day trip to a Monserrat is highly recommended
