Hi

I am buying a MK6 Golf GT TSI 09 plate soon and I dont like standard stereo it comes with, see below:

DrNaBha

I am well into my entertainment, I like easy navigation of my music which I will probably be playing from USB stick and I would like a built in sat NAV too. Anything else is a bonus... but these seem to cost around £400+ from what I am seeing, however on such popular auction sites there are several I am seeing that look similar without any brand names, that claim to be capable of everything... Bluetooth, Aux, USB, Sat Nav, DVD player, you name it..

But for £122????? Something seems fishy. I have messaged the sellers for exact make/model names so I can do some research but until then.. Any of you have any experience or knowledge with this?

Here is one for example

I just got the name its XTRONS PF73MTV cannot find too much about this, some youtube videos etc
Anyone know how good or bad these actually are, why are they so cheap

How much is it your wanting to spend? £300 should get you a genuine rns315 dab, so has satnav bluetooth etc. Won't have usb mind, but by streaming maybe?

I'd rather have that than some Chinese stuff.

Failing that, the next best option (probably better to be fair), is the official Kenwood offering. But that'll be £500+

Dont fancy folking out £300 atm. If this £120 is alright I will get it but if I hear it is absolutely terrible for whatever reason then I will save my money, stick with stock until I am ready to purchase a £300+ one

Bumping and leaving this with my original question, just incase someone reads this and knows of the stereo in question. I would like some feedback on the first one I was interested in as I am still tempted

XTRONS PF73MTV

I fitted a Xtrons in my Focus earlier in the year - Now have the rubbish Ford one back in as it's much better - Sat nav packed up -USB seized up - radio reception rubbish - I also think it was draining battery - Mate over the road has same unit and his sat nav packed up as well.

I am still looking for something but budget has risen to around £500+ - just can't justify it yet with low usage of car.

The cheaper ones often don't sound very good and you're probably at your destination before they've even loaded up.

I bought an Eonon unit for my Skoda, Slightly more expensive, think I paid £250 for it. Knowing a decent amount about Android though It's running a custom rom and slimmed it down a bit from there, it's now faster than the Amundsen it replaced. Sound quality is also on par if not slightly better than the one it replaced.

I have posted on piston heads and a car audio site, there are so many forums but its finding active ones where people reply. I know OCuk is always active thats why I thought I would ask here as well <3
I think I will wait til I get the car, see what the standard one is like first because its got controls on the steering wheel as well, it might be nice and I feel I dont need to buy a new one...I just then have to balance my phone somewhere with google maps loaded, not ideal but it works....
If I hate the stereo then I will have to get a new one, plus it makes the car look a lot nicer inside with a fancy colour screen... love gadgets :P

If you like gadgets so much, and are "into entertainment ", as your op suggests, then don't waste your money on cheap tat. Get something that is actually good.

You may find that the car already has a USB socket in it that will work with the original head unit. Most likely under the armrest or in the glovebox. If not, it will at least play MP3 cd's, so you could burn a few of them. Not as handy, but will do initially at least.

You want a proper upgrade in there. So something genuine, or from a big name like Kenwood et al. As I said, the RNS315 is probably the right step for you. I have the RNS 510 which is a further upgrade from the 315, but you don't get Bluetooth with it, and you really do have to pay for DAB with it too (mine was non dab, and was near £400).

Try not to waste £150 on tat, only to put the original stereo back in, while you save the £300 you should have just spent in the first place. And to be honest, if your that into it, save the £500 for a second hand kenwood unit that was the official Vw upgrade. You'll get much better sound and satnav with that.

Basically, android head units of that kind are okay. They all come from Chinese factories and usually run similar version of android. Anything non android is going to be rubbish. We've got a nice one for my girlfriends car for £180 with Android 6.0 and it's running fine and handles all we need it to.

Bigger names in that market are eonon, pumpkin and xtrons. Just make sure it is android and you'll be fine. Anything Windows CE based is absolutely worthless.

The cheap ones are not worth buying. They have poor sound quality and poor reception. Also they have cheap components so they don't last.

Theres a reason brands like Kenwood, Pioneer, etc cost as much as they do.
