2014 VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO COUPE 3-DR 2.0 TDI R Line BMT

The new Scirocco R-Line have two options, a 150PS 2.0 TDI and 180PS 2.0 TSI. The TDI is 20 MPG more efficient and is only 1.2 seconds slower 0-60 wise..... I know which I'd rather have, and TBH I bet the OP had a similar decision to make. I think the point for me would be "In real world terms what is 1.2 seconds getting me"? And the answer is pretty much nothing over a car that already gas a 8.6 second 0-60 time (a 140/150PS car will overtake on country lanes with ease and hold its own on the motorway). If we where talking about a base car that was a 1.0T / 1.2NA / 1.4NA then sure I could see your points..... but really having a dig at an engine because he should have bought something that is a second quicker seems bizarre to me!
It wasn't so much that he should have got the 1.4T petrol version its that most people find it rather laughable that it's being sold as a overpriced sporty model with bodykit, big wheels, twin exhausts and big R badges on it when it only has 140bhp. The R badges should only be on the 300bhp models

I agree R-Line badges on a low end model is a bit pathetic. But all in all the OP has a new car, it's not the fastest but equally it's not slow and I'm sure he'll enjoy it.

1.2 seconds in 0-60 times is quite a lot :)

But then even 180ps from a 2L turbo isn't great for a car costing that much.

I'll agree to disagree, 1.2 seconds in real world scenarios when you've already got sub 9 seconds 0-60 time is nice to have but really not going to chance your everyday driving experience.

That's so they can market the 220bhp version in the GTS as something better. They're well aware most buyers are into the scirocco for show rather than go, so no point throwing the proper engines in the lower trim levels if it means you can upsell the handful of customers who actually want a decent power output :p

There's more to life than 0-60 figures, and fuel economy isn't often the most important factor to someone who enjoys driving. I'd much rather have the petrol version.

Slap a badge on it and charge a couple of grand more for some cosmetic items. All the other manufacturers are doing this now, M and AMG badges on 1.6 diesels, even Ford with the ST badge. It seems to work though and people eat it up so I don't blame them for offering it.

A lot of people think they are getting something they aren't with the miss-leading badges though. It's a bit scammy.

At the end of the day that little Skoda diesel was proven to be the fastest car known to mankind I believe so this must be close as it has pretty much the same engine doesn't it? R badge will also add 20% to that performance as well and the big wheels another 10% so actually, this might be the fastest car on the forum. Read it a weep you jealous lot!!

Saw this bad boy on my travels at a consumer car show (that's right, a blazing 102PS): http://www.nissan.com.my/vehicles/almera-nismo/overview

I think it's just that the average consumer doesn't really care - how many times a year will your average motorist even open the bonnet on their car? If it looks cool and has the right badge, it's good enough for most people.

I agree your average person either wants something to go from A to B and doesn't care what it is and the others just want a fancy badge to show off.

Yea but someone who just wants to go from A to B isn't going to pay a premium for a VW badge. They will just go and buy a Yaris or something (which are actually suprisingly punchy for a shopping car lol) :p

Yeah that's why I split average consumer in two groups, one will just want a run around and the other half is bragging on facebook about there 1 series diesel with an M badge.

I bet you can't wait until tomorrow. Enjoy it matey :)

I'm not that bothered about the iffy badging to be honest, it's only on the front, and the badge is different. There's always something to differentiate between a proper performance model, and one that's just a bodykit. A lot of people aren't bothered about having the performance, they just want a car that's nice to look at. Anyone who knows about cars can spot the differences at a glance anyway.

Well guys, got my car, Love it.....
As someone said above somewhere, that it would feel fast.. after coming from a corsa 1.2, well yeah feels like a rocket lol
great car and condition imho been checking it over just a few minor niggles but those can be fixed...

1: slightly rusty break pads though i think thats the norm with rocco`s as they use cast iron or something like that
and
2: dust behind the headlights can notice it close up in the dark..... though vw are going to fix that with compressed air next time i take it in

and as for everything else i couldn't asked for a better car.... sure it a looker.... and quite nippy.

overall im very happy...

Do you mean the pads or discs? If discs it may be surface rust, try braking hard a few times to see if it goes away. My discs do this after I've washed my car.

That's great. As I said, I very nearly bought a similar car and still really fancy one.

Remember, no matter what you bought somebody on OCUK would tell you how wrong you were.

Glad you're happy, enjoy the new car.
