Las Vegas (September)

Another vote for Battlefield Vegas here and if you want to eat the best BBQ around then you want to go to Rollin Smoke BBQ just off the strip!

Only place I've ever been where you can order your side's literally by the gallon!

Just be prepared to smell like BBQ for the rest of the day! :D

Battlefield Vegas.

If you want do the helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, I highly recommend Maverick Helicopters.

Another vote here for both of these.

Battlefield vegas, I done the CS package. If you go early morning you can get additional money off plus I was the only person on the range. (helped we landed the day before and I was up early anyway)

Also Maverick had amazing customer service, we done the lunch landing in the bottom. If you find it cheaper elsewhere speak to them via website chat and the will probably match it.

Absinthe was well worth it too.

TBH, Reno is much nicer if you're not into gambling quite so much. LV essentially a handy place to stop off for cheap and plentiful hotels/restaurants (beware food poisoning at "all you can eat" type places though). I believe the old adage of arrive late, leave early still applies and if you're going to play the slots etc. put a specific amount aside and do it as a bit of fun, then walk away.

I went Reno a few years ago. Enjoyed it but it's a day or two type of place imo.

Edit, although been vegas 5 times never gambled, did gamble in my one trip to Reno

For food, Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab was amazing, maybe the best steak I've ever had.

For things to do, one of the highlights was the Pinball Hall of Fame. It's a room full of pinball machines going back to the 1950's.

I recommend going to wicked spoon in the cosmo for the unlimited champagne brunch food was great and the drink was free flowing

The last post for Las Vegas was back on Apr 16, 2015, I've read a lot of the comments so looking for something a little more up to date.

4 of us in September are travelling to Vegas for 6 nights in the MGM Grand. I wondered if anyone here has been and has a few tips, and suggestions?

Perhaps things that I really should do while I am there etc.

p.s. I do love my food, so any restaurant suggestions or great places to eat are welcome.

So far I’ve only booked Slotzilla in downtown and planning to book Absinthe this week.

Another vote for Battlefield Vegas.

On my first visit there 16 years ago even watched Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage, but....
Anyhow, if you going there first weekend or last two weekends of September, book tickets and watch David Copperfield at the MGM. :)

Tips for Battlefield Vegas :

1. Book their free Humvee hotel shuttle service.

2. Wear closed toe shoes and t-shirts. Freshly ejected cartridge casings are very hot!

3. Take plenty of money!

4. The instructors/range officers are execellent. Do exactly what they say and you'll have a great time.

5. Take your non-shooters with you. A lady persuaded my wife and 2 daughters to try a SIG 226 (9mm) and they loved it!

Hopefully someone will be using the mini gun when you are there. It's crazy :D The Barrett is also pretty crazy still pretty loud even with ear protection.

went in 2012 so probably a lot's changed now. i'd highly recommend the Sky Jump at the Stratosphere, and if you like much higher there's a parachute group in Hoover City called Sky Dive Las Vegas, it's a stunning experience.
i spent a lot of time just exploring the casinos/hotels, they're ****** massive in a lot of cases. the Deuce or the SDX are great value but 2 things about the Strip:
- be aware it's about 5 miles long, which can catch you out if you think you might have an afternoon stroll from end to end
- at peak traffic times it's a fricking zoo, so be prepared for some sitting in gridlock, or get out and walk.
there's no end of places offering copter rides, to the Canyon or over LV etc, spend some time looking for reviews and don't just go w/ the cheapest.

+10 for Battlefield Vegas, was one of my favorite things I did when I was there in April.
I was there to get married, we had are reception dinner in Lagos, which is one of the restaurants in the Bellagio overlooking the fountains. It was amazing, though expensive.
Heli flight to the Grand Canyon was really good, though quite short in comparison to say the bus trip. You only get 30 mins in the canyon but obviously much better views as you fly in.

Make sure you go to Freemont Street for the old strip experience, go at night to see it all lit up. You could spend days just walking around all the hotels taking it all in, I was there for a week and didn't get into quite a few of them.

My biggest tip for Vegas is be careful when places offer free/unlimited champagne. The US has far looser food & drink regulations than the EU and places are allowed to label Californian sparkling wine as champagne. If the advert mentions a brand name, all is good.

:p

Echoing others, Battlefield is great! It's something I always wanted to try and went with my wife who had zero interest in shooting a gun. I talked her into trying the GI Jane package and she loved it! Expensive and over quickly, but it fairly gets the adrenaline going. Plus they have loads of tanks, trucks and helicopters you can walk around while waiting for your lift back to the strip.

Shows: We went to O at Bellagio which was amazing. Also Watched David Copperfield who was also amazing. Genuinely gobsmacked by some of the things he performed.

Food: So, so, sooo many places to eat you simply won't get near to trying them all. However, for a quick bite to eat you have to try Holsteins @ the Cosmopolitan, the best burger I have ever eaten.
Another place in the Cosmo which saved us a few times after some heavy nights out is secret pizza. As its name suggests it's kinda hidden and is barely advertised but does amazing pizza's! Think it's on the third floor, hidden down a corridor with album covers on the walls.
If you like smoked meats then you need to go to rolling smoke. Slightly off strip but well worth the effort. Still only 15 - 20 mins walk from the Wynn, if that.

Also had really good Steak at Vic & Anthony’s located in the Golden Nugget, downtown Vegas. Really, really good.

Attractions: If you can, get a helicopter to the Canyon. You will see the Hoover dam on the way and you have lunch on the canyon floor. Still take around 4 hour from hotel to hotel, but is much quicker than the bus and you get better views. We went with Papillon tours who I would recommend.

You should also go to Vegas premium outlets for cheap clothing, although cheap when we went, the exchange rate has since crashed and the buys aren't quite as good, but will still be cheaper than you can buy in the UK. The north outlets are the best, no need to go to the south.

Wish I was going back but with a wee one on the way it'll be a while before I do.

Have fun!

:p

the only one with proper unlimited champagne is Sterling Brunch in Ballys, they serve Perrier Jouet

.

!

That will take you to the West Canyon, the tour companies call it the West Rim and get away with it as it is in the Grand Canyon national park but it is not really the grand canyon, in fact it is about 100 miles away, you need to go to the South Rim to see the real GC and this is not done by helicopter from Vegas

Given that Cirque Du Soleis currently have 7 shows on the go in Vegas, you may want to be more specific.

I'm sure I did write beatles in brackets but i was having trouble with Samsung autocorrect; for some reason it doesn't like the word Soleis!

But yes the beatles is definetly worth a watch
