Car stereo's on popular auction sites..

Ive been offered the RNS 315 on ebay for £200 + £10 postage so £210. Should I take it?
How clued up on android are you? I just replaced the RNS315 with an Eonon unit and after a bit of tweaking, would never go back.

They're perfectly usable out of the box, just wanted to make the UI on mine a little nicer.

Now available for £200 for the model I got but there are a few available. The only difference being the visual appearance, some have touch buttons, others have physical knobs and buttons. Depends if you like playing with knobs I guess?

HTC Desire, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S6 Edge.... Always had Android phones

Just messaged the seller, asking a few questions, if you know.
It says 'most' of the steering wheel controls retain, assuming not all, which ones dont continue to work with this unit.... Will the USB port under my arm rest still work with this unit.... and it seems to offer a lot of features but I noticed a lot of them you have to purchase extras, and reversing automatically loads the rear camera if you have one.. if you dont its just a black screen which could be annoying, can you not disable that on yours?
P.S My car is a 2009 MK6 Golf GT TSI, this would be compatible right?

I couldn't find any way of disabling the black screen, I got a reversing camera free with mine so ended up wiring that up. The audio still plays in reverse though so not the end of the world.

Might be worth emailing Eonon direct from their website, might be able to help a bit more. I've yet to actually try out the USB already in mine to see if it still works

Although a OEM one would look better I would much rather have an android one as it gives you so much more functionality not to mention constantly updated free maps which are much better than the usual integrated nav systems

What do you mean, least likely to consider what.. ?

The XTRONS stuff. It must be like listening to music with cotton wool in your ears. I guess though that depends on if you were saying you were quite into your entertainment or your audio, as to me, the two are not synonymous.

I had the exact stereo you linked in your first post in my mk5 gti, its a pile of crap. Drained the battery (was installed as per instructions), bluetooth cut out 24/7, didn't display song/artist on bluetooth, touch screen was horrible to use too.

I had an eonon in my mazda.

it was decent, had some bugs but they were pretty responsive online and even sent me a custom firmware to fix it.

bugs were small tho and my main constrain was low specs and older android(i had kitkat) the above imo is perfect.

same spec as my girlfriends one and that runs it all no issues. I haven't done anything to it other than install waze and tom tom go and it works out the box.

Done it... I just done it. Always end up obsessed with looking into things which is OK at first but then end up never buying anything and go round in circles... abit like you already seen me in this thread.
Thanks for all your help. Decided on buying the Android one mentioned recently - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Android-6...463485?hash=item4b1d1502fd:g:oDkAAOSwGUxZdXzt
Hope its easy enough to install, youtube videos I have seen look pretty straight forward..... If not I will have to pay for someone to do it for me

Mine has a 4G dongle connected via USB and a 128GB stick for music
The eonin seems to be up to 32GB, did you just find a bigger card also works (those flacs unless you re-rip can start to take up a lot of space)
.. but maybe you have another one of the brands you listed.

The eonin specifications do not seem very detailed - could not see what BlueTooth HQ musics codec they supported eg Apt-x/aac, since have quite a bit of music on phone.

Getting the OEM one out can be annoying since some manufacturers like to glue them in, so you might have to cut it out :/

The rest is just plugging stuff in and fixing it in place (need the right fittings so it's flush with the dash), then running the wires where they need to go. It does take a while.

Doubt it'll be glued in. It'll be 4 torx screws most likely. Don't know how similar the method is to the mk5 on the mk6, but on the mk5 you start at the fan grill on Top of the dash and work down removing trim. Easy enough and there is bound to be a million YouTube videos kicking about.

Yeah there is looks simple enough, I would have liked the rear camera but would have to pay to fit that... Wouldnt have a clue on feeding a cable through the entire car to the back lol... I will pass on that

Depends on the car really. 10 mins in my girlfriends car and 20 in my Mazda because it was tight with the cables.

Meant to be a breeze with these MK6 Golfs ( I will let you know myself when I come round to trying it though, might be a different story ha )
